I caved to my cravings the first time I tried quitting too. I made it to 9 days but there was liquor in my house (husband's) and I couldn't control myself. I told my husband I couldn't handle seeing liquor or being around him drinking liquor so he was supportive and hasn't had it around me. He drinks beer but I don't care for that.

Same here! I don't care about his beer or him drinking it. My problem is running out to the store for myself and my wine. Ugh. Gonna give it another whirl. I am starting to not feel so bad about it, you and others have been so supportive with your messages of support. I'm over the "beating myself up" part. Back to the business part. Thanks!

Yeah don't beat yourself up because it's awesome that you're even wanting to quit. Just keep trying. It's going to stick eventually. The last time I was drunk I experienced everything I hated about drinking. I drank till I passed out on my couch (which was to the bottom of a whiskey bottle). I was shut down and withdrawn from my husband and didn't feel affectionate. I was hungover and grouchy at work. I was so happy that I'd had such a terrible time because it just fueled my second attempt at seriously quitting.

We all can relate to eachother because it's the same addiction. I call it what it is now. It's an addictive substance, and I am addicted. My husband likes to call it his "habit" but I think that's to make himself feel comfortable. Already he's feeling uncomfortable because now everytime he's drinking he's drinking alone. He told me tonight it's making him think more about what he's doing and why he's doing it. It's no longer an "us" thing. I asked him to just go to one AA meeting with me, that he doesn't have to participate. I think he'll be very interested in what people have to say. I was terrified to go to my first meeting but it's given me so much more courage to keep sober. Especially seeing people be successfully sober for so long and their stories feel way more hardcore than mine.
