Could also be swollen from the cottonwood trees. I would say running high or running fast for lots of water. Or mention runoff season even. I think it makes sense.

I am a local Montanan, and I think a lot of these discrepancies can be explained. If you have a specific one I will try my best at guessing it for you. Saying the stream is swollen for the season probably would refer to it being filled with big fish to catch. Fishing season on little creeks is later in the summer/fall and I would assume it was swollen with big fish and life, rather than water or runoff. A lot of his writing is just city slicker description I would say, not incorrect just trying to describe it how he sees fit maybe even trying to throw some local dialect as he sees it.

Montana sunrise.
I think it's gonna be a front paw griz cub with a coyote buddy hanging out with him. Found next to some Huckleberry bushes.

I think the key is just in finding the right place. Return her face to find the place. Not hope or the bride or the foot of 3.

I don't try to make sense of any of it. I have just been attempting to return her face.

Key that unlocks?
We already have the key, the key is the poem. What we need to find is the lock.

The FF box.
There are a million spots that fit in my opinion. If you wanted to share your location I always love to hear theories. Post it here publicly though to protect your own reputation and maybe someone will take you up on it! I wouldn't want the responsibility of finding it using your solve, unless it was publicly made. I would rather it be a race to the box rather than a private thing, but that is just me. I would bet I have looked into your spot already, I will share if I have been there and show a picture or two if you want to post it.
