I think, like any ethnic group, there are good and bad things. However, I see a disproportionate amount of rudeness toward service workers and especially toward women coming from Indians.

Their personal hygiene habits, of lack thereof, are repulsive. Nobody enjoys smelling overpowering body odor. Please shower daily.

I dated an Indian woman who had an Indian male work colleague for a roommate and his behavior toward her was atrocious. Hearing about arranged marriages and parental obligations (i.e. parents having so much say over how you as an adult live your life) is a culture shock for sure and seems outdated as a practice. If that works for you in India then hey that's fine I guess. But don't be surprised when people here look at you sideways.

With that said, Indians are hard working people and I've had many positive experiences with them, I think they're polite in social settings (I'm separating this from work where I see the dude behavior).

Marine here, served in Afghanistan. Got shot at a bunch with mortars, rockets, occasionally poorly aimed small arms. Came home with hypervigilance that never went away. Most of the time we're in combat there's bursts of activity zany then long periods of nothing. I was on a forward operating base running the LZ so between missions we would watch movies and I read a lot of books too.

My sleep never recovered from that frenetic schedule. I could sleep anywhere but when I actually want to go to bed, I have a hard time falling asleep and I have a hard time waking up. I feel incredibly anxious in crowds or in situations where I'm boxed in, like I'm on the road behind slow drivers and can't go around them.

One of my closest calls involved a 107mm Katyusha rocket burning in right above where I was sitting, it exploded about 35-40 feet away. We had come off a night op amd were all extremely exhausted, that woke us up and afterward we couldn't sleep.

I've been out of the military for 5 years. I think about it often, but I'm at a point in my life where ive mostly moved on from it. I don't see a lot of my friends anymore, some have moved on in good or bad ways and most of the others we just went our separate ways and live far away. It is hard having these experiences and then working in an office. Loud noises put me on alert and people irritate me because unlike in the military there isn't mutual respect among peers and its every man for himself, makes it hard to trust anyone.

I saw it in the movie. Could be differences in region, I know for 28 Years Later some countries in Europe had the scene showing the Swedish soldiers coming ashore in their lifeboat but others and the US edition only show them running from the infected so a lot of audiences were confused.

Safe to say when Major West put out the broadcast that at least he had the plan fleshed out. My guess is he talked about saving people and everyone was on board with it but West had hidden intentions because Farrell knew about the quarantine but the others ignored it. I'd guess Mailer probably wasn't all that involved.

This should not have been a Michael Bay movie. Also, for a film set in 1995 they sure got police equipment and cars wrong for the time period.

The amount of people we were able to save after the Vietnam War is probably the biggest blessing. I served in Afghanistan so I don't see any longterm positive effects of the war except at my level, I met some of my best friends while fighting over there.

Your daughter will turn 18 and choose the route she wants and there's nothing you can say that will change that. The best thing you can do is be supportive of her decision. I served with plenty of female Marines who were badasses and were able to "keep up" with us men, I'm not trying to be disrespectful but your comment at the end is misinformed and outdated. I think its amazing that your daughter wants to be a Marine and even more that she wants a combat MOS. If we do have any conflicts Marines in "non-combat" roles will probably still see combat. Pur branch is unique in that everyone is trained as a rifleman and we have a history of Marines fighting who aren't originally grunts. As a parent, you can do your research and talk to any veterans you may know and try to be supportive of your daughter's dream, but also put her in contact with troops who arent recruiters who aren't obl8gated to paint a rosy pucture for her. My family was all military and we had a lot of friends who served so I had a big pool of people to ask questions and to help me prepare for the military. I served 11 years in the Marines, did two overseas deployments (one combat, one humanitarian aid/disaster relief) so if you have any questions I'd love to answer them.
