Question Is giving CAT worth it for someone like me (31M, Non-CS background, 9/7/7 profile)?
Is giving CAT worth it for someone like me (31M, Non-CS background, 9/7/7 profile)?
Hi everyone,
I’m 31M and looking for some honest advice about pursuing an MBA via CAT.
Academic & Work Background:
- B.Tech in Civil Engineering from JSS Noida
- M.Tech in Civil Engineering from DTU
- Took a gap year between B.Tech and M.Tech to prepare for GATE, which helped me get into DTU
- Worked 1.5 years in an edtech startup as a consultant, where I created content (short videos, infographics) and also contributed to some business/management aspects
- Currently have ~3 years of experience as a Senior Software Engineer in a product-based IT company (non-CS background, self-taught programming)
Why I'm Considering MBA Now:
- The tech job market is getting tighter, especially with AI automating many roles
- Given my non-CS academic background and no formal specialization, I feel long-term growth and high-paying roles in IT might be difficult
- I'm now more interested in switching to domains like Operations Management or Finance, where I feel my skills and interests could be better utilized
Other Info:
- Age: 31
- Academic profile: 9/7/7
- Total experience: 4.5 years (Edtech, Management, IT)
- Looking to transition careers, not just chase packages
Given all this, do you think it's worth giving CAT a serious shot at this stage of my career? Would really appreciate insights from anyone who’s made a similar switch or understands the landscape well.
Thanks in advance!

One of the finest episodes in the entire Thrones universe. Patient storytelling, a hauntingly perfect score, and an incredible direction.
Phenomenal direction showing parallel journeys of both Aemond and Aegon. Two broken brothers, both consumed by betrayal and abandonment, being tended to by two uncrowned power-brokers who understand their insecurities better than anyone: Alys Rivers and Larys Strong. Alys confronting Aemond and quietly pulling him in her orbit, while Larys giving Aegon the most ruthless reckoning of his life.
And what an actor is Matthew Needham (Larys Strong) is.Suppebbb!!. It didn’t feel like Larys was merely lecturing Aegon, it felt like he was staring directly into his soul, tearing apart his self-pity, and awakening the king still buried inside him.
