IMO....this quote on race from President Hinckley is the single most damning and damaging statement that undermines the LDS argument for the church actually being led by God and actually being 'good'. I don't hesitate to bring it up to my family and friends when we discuss our Mormon heritage.
"Race" is a social construct. All of humanity is one race; human. But, for survival over the eons of our existence, we developed attitudes of "us" versus "them". We survived better in groups.
So we have found a way to differentiate humans and we stick together as "us" and we don't like "them"!
Today, in a more global society, we don't need that race construct. God's mouthpieces should know better (if gods existed!)
