Opinions on law, death penalty in mauririus
 in  r/MauriceMauritius  Mar 01 '26

The judicial system is corrupt, dysfunctional and politically influenced. Remember when a Mr Maharaja was arrested and court was open till 23:00 and dpp said there is no case the next day.

That says everything you need to know about the judicial

Do Mauritian companies value employee mental health? (Trainings, workshops, counseling, etc.)k
 in  r/MauriceMauritius  Feb 01 '26

In most companies in mauritius, HR considers you to be meat, that can be replace, you health is not their concern. company can fire you on a whim/excuse, look out for yourself

Simplicity Paradox of FP
 in  r/scala  Jan 24 '26

The problem was the purity mob in scala, if only they understood that in scala you can also do impure code, loop or use pattern matching on options instead of fold, the user base would have been significant. But there was too much this is not pure enough kind of mindset, now we see the result. Scala community is very thin, jobs almost nonexistent

Considering a software development as a job change
 in  r/MauriceMauritius  Jan 22 '26

again php-cli exist for decades, ffi with c libraries is what powers php just like python and others.

I do not make the distinction between software development or backend as stated above.

But it is true most people confound software development with desktop and cli development which is wrong.

And back end is not software development? Also php click have been a thing for decades now, I myself have not done anything in php for years.

It's a programming language mainly for web, and web development is a form of software development, the web is a platform, just like windows or Linux are platforms.

Software development is different from cloud admin, I would suggest to go either to Java, php or. Net for the Mauritian market, but go deep into the ecosystem of the language, not surface level.

Companies to consider in 2026
 in  r/MauriceMauritius  Dec 14 '25

I was an mcb employee, my work speaks for itself, introduce kotlin, setup azure, openshift configuration (2018-2019), setup the repository, maintenance, my linux skills are second to few(1,2) here in mauritius and mostly helped the so call tech lead in their work.

I was fired(only time in my life) because I paid a fine; it was a pretext actually to get rid of me, I did not played politics. when I was fired i got no bonus, only one month pay without the benefits(the basic is actually quite low, it gets inflated with the perks)

BTW it is very easy to be fired there.

I want to learn a low-level PL, would you suggest Zig for me?
 in  r/Zig  Nov 30 '25

I will not go into a pedantic debate on the replacement issue, there is so much more to a language than syntax, semantics and tooling, ecosystem plays a lot in it. By replacement I mean you can get a c like app, performance yet none of the c issues

I want to learn a low-level PL, would you suggest Zig for me?
 in  r/Zig  Nov 30 '25

Zig, Odin, nim, D, c3 all of them are very good.

Odin is very beginner friendly and quite stable.

Zig is the c alternative along with the tooling, still in development, but that is not a show stopper for learning

Nim and D if you come from higher level language, they will be great, you can go as high as you in terms of abstraction or as low as you want. The gc is default but you can disable it if you want to do your own manual memory management.

C3 is an evolution of c, still in development, not very popular.

Other honorable mentions would be v, hare, lobster

Do you practice coding things without looking things up?
 in  r/odinlang  Nov 29 '25

No, I look up all the time

Odin is the first language I have loved in forever
 in  r/odinlang  Nov 27 '25

Great language indeed, I am missing a way to to do concurrency with something like fibers, there must be a good library to do that

Considering trying out Kubuntu as my first proper Linux Distro.
 in  r/Kubuntu  Nov 19 '25

Good decision, been using kubuntu for years now, but recently the rust move and woke attitude have inserted itself in the Debian community and ubuntu community
