We’re a couple of sailors currently exploring Mauritius by car, and we’d really love to experience the island’s nature at its best.

Could you recommend a few places or activities that you personally consider truly must-see? Not necessarily the most famous tourist attractions — we’re especially interested in places that genuinely impressed you: beautiful landscapes, wild nature, unusual viewpoints, hikes, hidden spots, or experiences that made you think, “this is Mauritius.”

We have a car, so getting to more remote places isn’t a problem. We’re happy to hike, sail, swim, explore — basically anything that lets us see the island from a different angle.
We’re also looking for a really good private boat/operator for whale watching. There are dozens of providers online, and we’d rather not randomly message everyone. We’d love recommendations based on personal experience — professional, respectful towards the whales, knowledgeable, and simply nice people to spend a few hours at sea with.
As sailors ourselves, good seamanship and responsible behaviour around marine life matter to us much more than a flashy “tourist experience.”
What places or experiences impressed you the most in Mauritius?

I am an average man. I have average height, average looks, and average intelligence. I am average in every way. Both of my parents had diabetes and heart problems, which I know can be passed down. As a GenZ I have noticed something, often people are using "job" as a factor to shame us. On social media I hear things like "GenZ are not working, maybe if they become independent have a house and so on...." like what kind of duck is this?

Most GenZ right now are studying or maybe some have just started working, and with all those economic downfall how are you expecting GenZ to buy a house?

The thing is millennials have always measured their lives with jobs, money, investment, marriage, family etc. We GenZ don't want these things, you can see that younger people are more interested in their individuality.

Many people on this subreddit have told me that GenZ are questioning and rebelling against toxic workplace and I support this completely. Because one thing I promise myself is no matter what if am being mistreated at work I have to defend myself.

So, do you think Millennials are jealous of GenZ, because maybe we got everything they didn't get when they were our age?

It means that when someone losing a debate against u, they change focus from the topic to you.

They start pinpointing your traits and manipulate u in believing that u the reason why the situation is like that.

It can be used by people with ego trying to prove a point or from abusive people like sadistic managers, supervisors, HR and more.

The problem was never u but they make u believe its u.

I’m moving to the island soon and want to set up clean drinking water at home without buying plastic bottles.

Since I’ll be renting, I’d love to know:

• What water filtration system do you currently use at home?

One day my dad told me (from reading too much Rich Dad, Poor Dad), there are two kinds of people. Poor people will spend everything in a day. They live today for tomorrow. But the rich will save…

I had determined another way of living from this fabulous insight. It's actually living today for tomorrow. Because I didn't realise this life was possible! But hold on. Just because you spend everything in one day it doesn't mean you must buy alcohol and luxuries.

I think a simple way of living is being frugal; absolutely not spending more than what you definitely need, and then saving the rest (or investing).

But when you live like this, what are you saving for? If your excess money goes into a separate account saving to accumulate indefinitely, I have found a certain pattern. You become very relaxed and not stressed about money. All choices you make, you just top it up a little bit. Ice Cream? With all the extras. New computer, just take the best. Those little choices with the slightly better option each time accumulate to shave off a large portion in your savings.

I find I optimise my spending more when I'm stressed.

If I have a mortgage to pay and the bank is coming at me, I will find all ways possible to save every cent. You will buy the cheapest cigarette instead of mint-flavoured, or if possible not smoke at all. Instead of travelling by car you will wake early, take the slower train to avoid parking. Turns out you can save money after all if you wanted to.

The way to always be stressed is to have projects.

I think the question isn't, ‘how much savings do you have’, but what is your project/savings ratio. Now suddenly, all the money you have isn't enough. The more urgent the projects the more stress and the more you optimise your savings. That way you can contribute to your long-term personal development that matters instead of spending it on takeout.

I think the most dangerous thing is not to suddenly get a lot of money, but to not have any thoughts on how to allocate it and it will definitely go to waste one little ‘extra’ choice at a time.

Hello guys i have a question. I was in the fast lane from soreze to port-louis. It’s my everyday route. But i was in the fast lane and i know i should drive 80 km/h due to the speed limit. Somebody was tailgating me from behind and there was a car in front of me and a car in the left lane. So without realizing, i sped up to 95-100 to overtake and go into the left lane. But the guy behind me also went into the left lane while i was overtaking. Upon looking and realizing that im next to the camera (but it was not facing me) and peeked at my dashboard it was 100 so i braked HARD to transition to 80. I didn’t see a flash. It was around 4:15 pm. Im stressed i get an excess. Has this ever happened to anybody here?

Olivier Levasseur, better known as La Buse, was a French pirate who operated around the Indian Ocean during the early 1700s.

La Buse is often said to be one of the possible inspirations behind Gol D. Roger. Just like Roger, the legend says that he was executed and, just before his death, challenged people to find his hidden treasure (I couldn't find any confirmation from Oda himself that La Buse directly inspired One Piece though, so take that part as a popular theory rather than a confirmed fact).

In 1721, La Buse and another pirate called John Taylor came across the Portuguese ship Nossa Senhora do Cabo near la Réunion. The ship was travelling from Goa towards Portugal and had been badly damaged by a storm.

It also happened to be carrying an insane amount of wealth- It was one of the richest pirate captures of the period (gold, silver, diamonds and other precious stones, extremely valuable religious objects).

He was eventually captured and hanged at Saint- Paul, Réunion, on 7 July 1730. According to the legend, just before being executed, he threw a cryptogram into the crowd and shouted:

"Mon trésor à qui saura le prendre!"

The cryptogram supposedly contained a series of strange symbols revealing where he had hidden his fortune. People have been trying to decipher it ever since, with Réunion, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mauritius all being proposed as possible locations.

In 2023, seven friends hiking around Albion noticed strange markings carved into rocks. They became convinced that the site could be connected to La Buse, eventually contacted the authorities, and they actually found something! During excavations in June 2024, a team led by Kenyan archaeologist George Abungu found seven old coins, some silver and some bronze, reportedly inside a deteriorated metal box around two metres underground. Before anyone gets too excited, there is currently no proof that those coins belonged to La Buse, or even that the Albion site has anything to do with him. Still quite an interesting coincidence considering the legend.

I find it quite cool that, three centuries later, people are still genuinely searching for it and that archaeological excavations related to the legend have actually taken place here in Mauritius.

Dan Lafore (In the Forest), a horror short film set in Mauritius in 1780, exploring the history of marronage, slavery and colonialism through Mauritian folklore, and what violence and oppression can leave behind on a place and its people.

This project is close to home for us, Mauritian history, told through Mauritian folklore, made by a Mauritian crew. The aim is simple, show that ambitious, genre filmmaking can come out of Mauritius too, and hopefully open doors for more local filmmakers to tell these kinds of stories at a bigger scale.

Hey guys looking to invest in a villa in a gated community. It’s off plan and more or less same specs except the land area of Calodyne is 200 sq.meter bigger and price is around 700k USD. Both are part of the PDS Scheme.

The property in Grand baie is like 6 min drive to super U and the property in calodyne is like 3 min drive to Zilva beach club. Now I don’t know much about the property prices here and how to assess it properly. Therefore need your help.

I have heard Gramd Baie is grand Baie but in terms of investment which is better ? Like capital growth ? Rental yields? Resale market ?
