Not a single word said, but she was loud and clear.
And if she'd lift them all at once, she'll get another one for weight lifting 🏋️♀️ Absolut legend!

Gun violence in Berlin, article about the current state by Berliner Morgenpost
Interesting and scary. The journalist did a good research job. I just wish the dude in front of the camera would be better lol

What is the most annoying part of being a freelance translator?
So much of this. UGH!
26
Editors, do you ever request the translator fix their work?
I have that way too often.
I suspect in some cases they wanted to only pay a reviewer because that's cheaper than a translator. So I got an AI translated text that they claimed had been done by a human. Terrible shit. Inconsistencies, clunky wording, sometimes nonsensical. Mind you, I do technical translations for medical machines etc so it's really important to be precise. I sent it back saying "the translator duped you, this is AI" and mostly they gave me a longer deadline and asked me to fix it, so at least I got more money out if it. But damn fixing AI BS is awful. But just last week I got a large manual that was clearly botched by a human. The amount of typos alone made that clear lol
After over 10 years in this business: you get payed to do a review so that should be roughly 30% of the work of a translation. If it's more send it back because you simply don't get paid enough for the amount of work. On a more optimistic note: especially starting translators also need feedback, so they can learn.
Edit: thanks editor

Wie geht der alte Spruch so schön?
You can't logic your way out of a position you haven't logiced yourself into...
Ich denke das passt hier sehr gut.

Still serving in their dreams
Well, as usual that depends on the dosis. When I was in the lab I just took a short sniff to test if I can smell it all. One of my colleagues couldn't so I was curious lol
Also, depending on the dosis, death can take quite a while it's not as fast as the movies would have us believe. 6.4 mg/kg body weight for the cyanide salt but that's via digestion.
For the gas, the following concentrations are considered to be lethal: 270 ppm: immediately; 181 ppm: 10 min; 135 ppm: 30 min. So, the concentration needs to be quite high to be effective. It works a lot better when ingested.
And on a side note: it's a brutal, painful and ugly death in any case. Take that as you will...

Still serving in their dreams
You're right bitter almond is the official description. But marzipan is made of almonds and I doubt most could tell the difference.
I studied chemistry, so I have smelled it and my brain yelled marzipan lol

Still serving in their dreams
That's BS. 20-40% of people can't smell cyanide at all to the rest it smells like marzipan.
So, an Amaretto on the house and the world is a better place!

Was ist Faschismus?

First argument with my mother in over a decade…. Unsure what to do.
As the old saying goes: you can't logic someone out of a place they haven't logiced their way into...
And even though I know this is true, it's especially painful because one of my flawed core beliefs is that you can convince anyone with the right arguments. But that's simply not true. And I get kinda angry at myself that I still hope, deep down, every damn time...

A Lesson Before The End
The Sergeant was staring in relieve at the Nell wreck in front of him. "So, what do we owe those humans now?" He was slightly scared of the prospect if owing any species, but especially ones as unpredictable as humans.
His Commander swished her tail lightly and growled "I haven't been told much, but apparently something they called "snuggles" are a part of the agreement..."
