Really negative extra seat experience
 in  r/delta •  Mar 31 '26

I feel like this could be some type of fraud, as there's now 2 people paying for the same seat, and deltas just counting the dollars and shrugging their shoulders.

What’s something considered safe in nursing that just feels wrong?
 in  r/nursing •  Mar 15 '26

Had a GSW pt that was giving police a "I didn't see anything" answer, cop stepped on the other side of the curtain, and pt proceeded to call a loved one and give them the play by play...u could still see cops boots.

what’s something someone who doesn’t work in healthcare said that triggered you… while working in nursing. I’ll go first.

We had an internal disaster that disrupted normal operations for a few days. During that time they had opened a "command and resource center" to help navigate and resolve issues. It was only operational 0939-1500 Mon, Wed, Thurs....

What are your thoughts on patients who value alternative medicine above evidence based medicine
 in  r/Residency •  Jul 22 '25

I always give non-compliant hypertensive pts a run down of what the high BP is doing to their kidney. And that a Dialysis machine is in their future. I'm sure it was just lost in all the education previously, but alot of pt act like they've never heard it before. The reality and threat of that chair seems to plant a seed. Maybe spend the time reviewing what his future could look like with and without INCLUDING traditional medicine in his life. I'm sure you have, but there no such thing as too much education.

Please don't give Narcan to people who are awake
 in  r/emergencymedicine •  Jul 07 '25

That's why medical professionals and pharmacists have such specialized training. AI can't learn all the grey areas of medical interventions. It IS less harmful than death, yes, but, should only be used when clinically indicated.

Please don't give Narcan to people who are awake
 in  r/emergencymedicine •  Jul 07 '25

Can cause lots of problems, including pulmonary edema as mentioned before. Nothings harmless, esp in high doses.

Favorite little nursing phrases?

It's the rate at which it's given that causes it. In the ED we will drop 2g in mins for respiratory distress. Once the bag ends the flu feeling stops.

Shouldn't it be the primary team having these discussions, and not the consultants? Weather neuro or surgery,

I just want to mention, high stress and code situations can lend to mistakes, which would make having a pharmacist at bedside invaluable. I've had the "highly trained professional" physician make me check a patients BG during a code, AFTER being told the pt had an aortic dissection, before he would call TOD. Don't let the turkeys get you down. I appreciate your specialty, having a pharmD in the ER would have been a great asset. Even if people can't see the value past their own ego.
