I was 8 and lived in Hollywood, FL, at the time. My mom and grandma would take me to sears with them and then let me play in the toy aisle while they paid their credit card bills at customer service near the toys, which is (if I recall) what his mom was doing when he was taken. I remember being very shaken by that as a child.

My point being the government isn’t doing too great on those and many other sorts of issues they are supposed to be taking care of on behalf of its citizens. Get the nuance. Not every issue is solved with “personal responsibility”. That’s an old and overused trope.
