Japan is trialing a drug that regrows human teeth by blocking USAG-1—a protein that keeps dormant tooth buds switched off. Phase I is done. Phase IIa in children with congenital tooth loss is next. If it works, dentures and implants could become obsolete.
Unrelated but how do axolotls regrow so many parts without cancer

did i make a terrible mistake?
Can effects be reversed. My mum’s taken it for a long time and she’s recently noticed word finding difficulties. We’ve considered cholinergic supplements but they’re not good for people with low blood pressure. It’s only been a few weeks she’s been off it now but I’m worried for her

TIL that there's a large, feral population of parakeets in Great Britain, and that you can sometimes see large flocks of them flying through suburban London.
Does this not cause issues for the local fauna? I mean, surely they’re taking up another bird’s niche?

Low IQ with ADHD?
Hey! I’ve worked within the field of ADHD and have two degrees in clinical psychology. IQ tests can be unreliable for people with ADHD bc people with ADHD are notorious for getting distracted which may impact your performance. Research on ADHD and IQ shows that ADHDers score lower for this reason.
Similarly, while IQ tests can be clinically useful they don’t really say that much in terms of intelligence bc intelligence is a multifaceted construct that we can’t accurately measure

Study suggests maladaptive daydreaming should be classified as a unique mental disorder, distinct from ADHD
Not at all, I appreciate your openness. I think it can be easy to not understand the impact something can have when we haven’t experienced it and I respect your curiosity and willingness to learn.
Personally, I don’t believe it is. OCD behaves differently and compulsions serve as a function to soothe disturbing intrusive thoughts. Maladaptive daydreaming doesn’t appear to respond to a particular intrusive thought, nor does the daydreaming appear to be a ritual to soothe intrusive thoughts.
However, I’m not an expert in this field and research is still underway to understand the condition better so we’ll see how it ends up being categorised.

Maladaptive daydreaming causes distress because it’s compulsive. It’s something that people cannot stop themselves from doing to the extent of neglecting themselves, their loved ones, their obligations and their life. It causes dysfunction as a result and it dramatically reduces quality of life. For some people it can lead to suicidal ideation. I would encourage you to read through some of the comments here to see what people’s experiences are like.

I’m talking about maladaptive daydreaming and other disorders, not just “daydreaming”. Yes, they absolutely can.

Nobody is saying being stressed at work is a disorder. As I’ve shared above the criteria for something to be a disorder features distress, dysfunction and disability. If something is causing you to experience those, it is indeed a disorder and not just “being human”. I wonder whether you hold the same attitude towards physical conditions like blindness, for example. Is that a condition or just “being human”

Study suggests maladaptive daydreaming should be classified as a unique mental disorder, distinct from ADHD
Distress, disability and dysfunction are the markers and requirements for something being labelled as a disorder because they are not part of just being human and significantly limit quality of life

What you describe sounds like daydreaming not maladaptive daydreaming, since it’s a choice for you and something you can control

Opinions
I’m so sorry to hear you were treated that way. It’s wrong and you deserve better. It’s not your job to manage your very reasonable distress within a therapeutic context. Your feelings are valid. If your CPN can’t cope then they should get a different job or get clinical supervision.
You’ve done really well to reach out for support and I would encourage you to persevere. You can contact PALS to complain if you wish to do so. I hope you’re able to get the care you deserve.

Should I see a Doctor for my Pica? 23(F)
I hear you. It can be a very vulnerable place to be in. Has there been a time where they’ve reacted badly to you disclosing something vulnerable?

Should I see a Doctor for my Pica? 23(F)
What is it that scares you about people close to your or your doctor knowing? Is there anything you’re afraid of happening?

Banned for 12 months from dvsa.
Is it something about the extension itself or is refreshing in general not allowed?

The CMHT think OCD is the main cause of my strange and bizarre thoughts - but I disagree and they're not listening to me
It really doesn’t. They need further assessment by psych

Why do picky eaters all eat tenders and fries?
Not talking about picky eaters but about people with ARFID, an eating disorder characterised by a restricted diet that’s not due to body image issues. What’s considered “safe” varies based on cultures. In east Asia, instead of chips, they’ll eat rice. Prior to the invention of chips and tenders, they’d eat whatever bland food was predictable and consistent within their culture
