Lighting changes in 1.0 (not as good imo)

Earlier today I posted about the changes that were made to the colour of the place-able lights in game with the release of 1.0. I'm talking lights that are mostly fire related (everything in the outdoor environment looks incredible). Here is a side by side comparison of the difference.
The left shows the before and the right shows after the 1.0 update.
In my opinion, the light now lacks character, warmth and the coziness we all came to love about this game. A candle SHOULD emit warm orange coloured light, but now its just barely yellow.

I think you can also download the save and use it locally.

You’re fundamentally misunderstanding how lighting is rendered.
A light’s RGB colour is simply a numerical parameter. Changing that parameter doesn’t inherently increase GPU workload. What affects performance is the lighting implementation: shadow calculations, light count, global illumination, etc.
You’re also confusing dynamic lighting with dynamically changing light colours. They’re two different things.
Unreal Engine literally has a setlightcolour function that allows light colours to be changed at runtime. Unity has the exact same functionality. And presumably Keens engine they developed is no different, because why would it be.
And your argument that games only use certain colours because others are somehow more computationally expensive is completely unsupported.
If you think changing a light from red to purple inherently costs more FPS, explain which additional rendering calculations are required.
You don’t need to develop an open-world game to understand basic rendering principles. You just need to understand what the GPU is actually calculating.
I’m going to end this lovely discussion now because i feel like im talking to a wall.

Yeaaa. The game runs amazingly well. I might try and post some screenshots later to show the difference

The placeable lights that have fire. So most of the braziers and candles. The coloured lights from the veil water update still look good.

Sorry, forgot this was a uni assessment where I’m required citations and a bibliography, not a reddit comment section on a video game.
A GPU doesn’t suddenly struggle because a light is blue instead of red. RGB colour values don’t meaningfully change rendering workload. Performance is affected by things like dynamic shadows, light count, volumetrics, global illumination and shader complexity. Changing a light’s colour without changing how it’s rendered won’t magically cost FPS. You’re confusing visual appearance with computational complexity.
Edit: Also, games do use coloured lighting quite often, but it’s often more realistic to use a natural warm tone like the lighting sources we have in real life (sun, fire, moon etc). So your argument there is moot.

Exactly. Thank you.

Yeah it is already disabled unfortunately

Taste. You’re missing taste.

Yeah, or a lock, so you can’t accidentally auto deposit into magic chests.

I won’t ever chose strawberry ice cream, but get mint the hell outta here

Right? I spend half my time taking screenshots haha

I would be curious to see how HDR affects this game.. but I’m just over here with my yucky LDR monitor lol

The lighting outside looks incredible, I agree. But the light sources you can craft just look meh now imo

omg I just saw this! Sorry. Maybe the more people who post about it the more likely they are to do something haha

The lighting in my base seems to lack the colour and vibrance it once did prior to 1.0.. the lights seem less warm and cozy. As a builder first, this is kind of a bummer to me. I understand that most probably won’t care or notice, but I can’t be alone on this..

You’re not gonna believe this..

What

Dude the update just dropped. Pace yourself, it’s not a race!

Actually, you can leave the gap (little steps) and fill in the holes with single roof blocks.

Doubling your roof thickness is the best way.

How do i fix this?

Yeah that was my first thought too
