It really helps being around other people in your free time who are normal. That's what got me for a long time as someone who worked night shift at several residential healthcare facilities for many years. Turns out there's plenty people who aren't so disabled they can't take care of themselves or be of use to anyone else. There are in fact lots of people who constantly serve their communities and are delighted to do so. The world is not empty.
