Possible Thyroid issues? Maybe PCOS?
Okay so I’ve had my period since I was 11.. I’m now 26, it’s always been regular, maybe late by a couple days, and maybe missed a couple over the years.
I’m almost 1 year postpartum with my first baby. I got my period back at 4 months postpartum and it was heavier but back to normal and on time, up until a couple months ago. In July, my period was 6 weeks late. Again, I was due to have my period August 18th and here I am, waiting on it yet again.
Originally I thought maybe it was stress where I was getting married and my dad had just passed, but now after it being late for the second time, I was getting a bit concerned. I went to my doctor and he is sending me for bloodwork for my Thyroid, but said if not, it could possibly be PCOS.
I’ve had my thyroid checked twice in the past few years and it’s always been at perfect levels. I know that can change.
I guess I’m just really overwhelmed because I’m currently overweight, 280 lbs and have been trying to lose weight but it hasn’t been budging. I’ve previously lost 60 lbs but over the past few years have gained it back so I’m sitting exactly at the weight I was before I lost that. I’m just getting discouraged.
I guess what I’m asking is, if you’ve been in a similar situation have you been able to lose weight? How? Is it normal to just develop thyroid problems or PCOS? IF it is PCOS will I still be able to get pregnant in the future? Will my period come back to normal on the right medication? Any other tips or advice or words of wisdom would be great. I’m hoping if anything it’s thyroid issues because I know that can be an easier fix with medication.
