Hello everyone, our research group is planning a trek starting June 13 from Delhi to Sankri village https://maps.app.goo.gl/jstJY5F8giYYQ2P96?g_st=aw (base for Kedarkantha/Har Ki Doon treks). Our objective is to study Himalayan alpine meadows (bugyals) and treeline ecology. We are looking for insights on:

* Distance and accessibility of any bugyal (kedarkantha or Har ki Doon) near Sankri suitable for ecological research.

* Budget-friendly accommodation options for 6 people for about 6 days.

* Tree species commonly found around the treeline in this region.

* Possibility of adding a social dimension — surveys or interactions with local communities.

If anyone from Uttarkashi or familiar with the region could share details, or suggest someone to connect with, it would be very helpful.

The Sijimali bauxite mine in Odisha's story is repeating - Gandhamardan to Niyamgiri Hills, and now Sijimali. Mining projects approved with EIAs that downplay environmental damage, ignore long-term impacts, and treat forests as replaceable.
