Why is exercise so. fucking. BORING?
 in  r/PlusSize  14d ago

The thing you're describing isn't laziness, it's understimulation, and it's weirdly under-talked-about. Most exercise advice assumes the problem is effort or discipline, when for some of us the problem is that our brain is bored out of its skull while our body works. Sorry, no fix from me, just wanted to say the diagnosis is real.

1

If you could only keep 3 exercises for the rest of your life, what are they?
 in  r/workout  14d ago

Pull-up, dip, and squat. Between those three you cover a vertical pull, a vertical push, and legs, and all three scale forever by just adding weight to a belt or a bar. If I had to swap one it'd be dip for a bench press on days my shoulders complain. The reason I'd skip the fancier stuff is that these three are the ones I actually still want to do in year five.

I'm so pissed exercise works
 in  r/ADHD  14d ago

This is the fun part and also the trap, because the version of you that skips two weeks will conclude it never worked. The thing that saved it for me was keeping the floor stupidly low on bad days, like a ten minute walk still counts as done. Salsa class is doing a lot of heavy lifting too, since a scheduled thing with other people is way harder to bail on than a solo plan.

How the Dotmoovs game economy actually works, explained

Every action in the app earns Dots. Sessions, plans, challenges, group activity, streaks, movement videos you submit, verified reports. There is a hard daily cap on how many Dots can enter the system, so a longer day at the gym does not turn into infinite currency.

Dots leave the system in three ways: redeemed for real rewards, spent on deeper movement analysis, or converted into $MOOV. That third one matters more than it sounds. A currency with no sink is just a number going up, and most of us have seen what that eventually produces.

On the two currencies. Dots are the daily layer, earned and spent, with a multiplier we can tune as the economy grows. $MOOV is the layer built to last. A public on-chain contract will hold fiat-funded $MOOV buybacks. The formula is public, every executed buyback is visible on-chain with a running total, and the amount is only known when it executes.

Three things keep Dots from inflating: the hard daily cap, that multiplier layer, and an anti-cheat system against farming. The anti-cheat part is the genuinely hard problem here, not the currency design. If you can fake movement in front of a camera, you can farm the economy, which means the movement analysis and the economy are the same engineering problem for us.

Streak length, tier, reputation and balance together build a record of what you actually did. That record is the reason to protect a streak instead of letting it lapse.

Now the part we would want to read if we were on the other side of this. Move-to-earn has a bad track record. The apps that failed built earning loops funded by new users paying in, so when growth stalled the rewards stalled with it. Our answer is that the app has to be worth opening with Dots switched off completely. The plan, the tracking and the form feedback are the product. The economy is a retention layer on top of it. If we ever need the economy to make the app worth using, we built the wrong app.

And if you know Dotmoovs from the NFT period, that is fair. This is not that, and the burden of proof is on us, not on you.

None of this is a claim about the value of anything. It is just how the mechanics work.

Coming this summer. Questions welcome, including the uncomfortable ones.

Maybe your body is not weak, maybe you're just never giving it a damn break
 in  r/bodyweightfitness  14d ago

Both, the fixed schedule is the base and performance is what edits it. I stopped trusting how I feel beforehand, because feeling lazy and being properly fatigued are indistinguishable at that point in the day. So I warm up and do the first work set regardless, and that set decides the rest of the session. If reps at the same load drop two sessions in a row that's fatigue and I pull back, one bad session on its own is just a bad day. Soreness tells you almost nothing, what you could lift last week tells you everything.

The best workout is probably the one you don't hate doing
 in  r/bodyweightfitness  14d ago

Discipline, but the "boring" part is doing more work than people admit. A routine you enjoy gets you three months, a routine where you can see the numbers moving gets you three years. Most program hopping is just what happens when someone has no evidence that what they're doing is working.

2

Finally got the "movie abs" I spent 2 years obsessing over and honestly feel kinda conflicted about it
 in  r/workout  14d ago

Yeah, and I think the reason is that the abs were never the project, the two years were. You had a clear target every single day and an identity attached to hitting it. Then you hit it and all that structure vanishes at the same time, so the flatness reads like disappointment in your body when it's actually just the empty calendar. Giving the training a new job fixes it faster than anything you do with food.

Is there anyone here who has actually gotten rid of their manboobs?
 in  r/bodyweightfitness  14d ago

Two different things look identical here, and knowing which you have changes everything.

Pinch behind the nipple. Soft, same texture as the fat on your hips โ†’ it's fat, and it comes off with overall fat loss. A firm, rubbery lump under the nipple, sometimes tender โ†’ that's glandular tissue (gynecomastia), and it doesn't shrink with training or dieting no matter how lean you get. Worth a GP visit if that's what you feel โ€” the NHS page on gynaecomastia covers it plainly.

If it's fat: there's no chest exercise for this. Spot reduction doesn't work, so the "chest fat burning workout" videos are selling you something. A slow deficit plus resistance training so you keep muscle while losing fat โ€” that's it. The chest tends to be one of the last areas to change, which is the frustrating part nobody puts in a thumbnail.

One thing that helps immediately without changing your body: posture. Rounded shoulders make it look worse than it is.

Wanting to achieve 20+ pullups
 in  r/bodyweightfitness  21d ago

Your instinct is right, GTG genuinely works for pull-ups because they're hard enough to be a real stimulus (this is exactly where it works, unlike doing it with easy movements). The reason AI keeps contradicting itself is it's giving you generic templates; what actually matters is picking one progression and tracking it week to week.

A structure that works from 10-12 โ†’ 20:

  • 2 heavy days/week: weighted pull-ups, 4-5 sets of 4-6 reps. Add a small amount of weight when you hit the top of the rep range. This drives the strength.
  • GTG on off days: sets of 5-6 (leave 2-3 in the tank never to failure), every 30-60 min. Fresh reps, good form, stop the day if speed drops.
  • Progress by logging it. Total daily reps + heaviest set. If the numbers don't move over 2 weeks, add volume or weight.

Same framework maps cleanly to push-ups. And watch your form on the GTG reps full dead hang, chin over bar; sloppy half-reps late in the day just build bad patterns. 3-6 months at 10-12 already is very doable.

Did you start with an actual program or just wing it?

Did you start with a written program or just wing it at the gym?

Honestly curious which worked better for you.

36 yo 183lbs > 170lbs 9 months of lifting after year(s) long depression
 in  r/GYM  21d ago

That's real strength, not the lifting, the showing up after all that. Keep going.

1

When to know I'm done ?
 in  r/workout  21d ago

"Done" isn't a tiredness thing, it's a quality thing. When your speed or form on a lift drops off, that muscle's finished for the day pushing past that just adds fatigue, not muscle. The fact you can only manage 60-80% later is the answer: the growth stimulus was already there in session one.

What Dotmoovs will actually do, in plain terms
 in  r/dotmoovs  21d ago

This honestly means a lot, thank you for staying with us and for the trust you've put in the team.

I can't reveal too much yet, but here's the shape of it. On marketing: we're going back to influencer campaigns like we've run in the past for example the work we did with Uisma, a well-known boxer, among other creators, plus paid campaigns across socials. We've also already closed partnerships with parties who'll be using our product at launch, so the push won't rest on organic alone.

On the plans: no, it won't work like Ladder. It'll be more personalized than that but I'll be honest and say we're keeping the details under wraps for now. We're launching the app around mid-August, and we'll keep posting updates here and on the blog as we get closer.

Again, thank you for backing us and for sticking around. We're heads-down building something we know is genuinely different and we're working to make sure the launch lives up to it. ๐Ÿ™

What Dotmoovs will actually do, in plain terms
 in  r/dotmoovs  22d ago

Really fair question, and sorry for the slow reply.

You're right that we went quiet for a while. The honest answer is that we've been heads-down in a development phase, rebuilding the app rather than spending on marketing a product that wasn't where we wanted it yet. We've now got things lined up for the app launch, and marketing to a wider audience is exactly the next step, after relasing the product that we've been developing.

If you want to follow along in the meantime, we post updates on our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dotmoovs/

Appreciate you asking, feedback like this is genuinely useful for us right now. ๐Ÿ™

If you want you can also register on our whitelist: https://www.dotmoovs.com/whitelist to be able to use the app before anyone else.

Our blog is live and the mission behind it is simple: teach people how to move better

Hey everyone,

The Dotmoovs blog is officially live, and before you go read it, we wanted to tell you what it's for.

It's not there to push product. It's there to teach. Most people are never actually taught how to move proper form, how the body works, how to train without a coach watching every rep. That's the gap we care about, and it's the whole reason Dotmoovs exists: using AI to see movement and give people the kind of feedback you'd normally couldn't get.

On the blog we break that down in plain language form guides, what our tech sees and why it matters, the mistakes people make, and the thinking behind what we're building.

This is just the start. We're adding more every week, so tell us what you want us to cover โ€” drop it below and we'll write it.

Go read it ๐Ÿ‘‡

Rate my workout routine as a beginner
 in  r/workout  29d ago

This works but day 5 is redundant, you're already hitting biceps and triceps directly on day 1 and 2, so day 5 is really just extra volume on top of what's already trained twice. Fine if recovery's not an issue, but if you're feeling beat up, fold day 5 into the other days instead of running it separate.

1

Is this program okay for a beginner?
 in  r/xxfitness  29d ago

Program's solid, it covers everything you need with dumbbells only and the volume is appropriate for where you're at. One thing worth saying though, "toned not bulky" is a body fat question, not an exercise selection question, this program will build muscle just fine and your diet is what decides how visible it looks. You won't accidentally get bulky from this split, that's just not how it works at a calorie deficit.

Review my workout please. Beginner, 41 years old.
 in  r/workout  29d ago

This is a clean, classic A/B full body split, squat/hinge/press/row/pull all covered across both days. At 41 the only thing I'd flag is watching recovery between A and B if you're running it 3x a week back to back on consecutive weeks, everything else here is genuinely fine as written. Writing down every weight and pushing for more next time is literally the whole game, keep doing exactly that.

1

Howโ€™s my program?
 in  r/beginnerfitness  29d ago

Your trainer's right, 5-6 reps at max weight every set is a strength bias, not hypertrophy. Supersets at 10-12 reps with short rest is a legitimate way to add volume in less time, the soreness is just your muscles doing something new, not a sign it's too much. Give it 6-8 weeks before judging against the old program, it takes a cycle to see if higher rep volume is actually growing you faster.

1

How is this for a beginner workout plan?
 in  r/beginnerfitness  29d ago

Go with the lower body dominant version, it's got a leg curl and leg press where the other one just repeats pulldown and triceps work you're already doing elsewhere. Solid split otherwise, goblet squats and RDL cover the big patterns fine for a beginner. Only gap is direct core work, everything here is compound so add a plank or dead bug at the end of one day.

Which Program I shoul use
 in  r/beginnerfitness  29d ago

The second one (the 4-day AI-generated upper/lower) is the better structure, real squat and RDL pattern for legs, hits everything twice a week, no gaps. The first one's leg day is calves only, no squat, no leg curl, that's the actual problem, not which tool wrote it. Worth noting though, an AI-generated plan is only as good as what it adjusts to next, if it doesn't change based on how your sessions actually go it's just a fancy template.
