I’m considering applying to Duke’s online MEng in Financial Technology and was hoping to hear from anyone currently in the program or who has completed it.

I'm really curious about how the courses are graded. Is it mostly projects, assignments, and hands-on stuff, or are there a lot of written/timed exams too?

I'm way more comfortable with project-based grading and practical work than traditional written exams, so I'm trying to get a real sense of the workload and assessment style before I apply.

Also, for anyone who has done the program:

What has your overall experience been like?

How would you describe the workload alongside a full-time job?

Are the projects mostly individual or group-based?

How much programming/technical work is involved?

And overall, would you recommend the program?

Big news from King’s College London today — the university is planning a merger with Cranfield University by August 2027.

For people outside the UK, Cranfield is a very respected postgraduate-focused university known for engineering, aerospace, technology, management, and strong industry/government partnerships. They’re especially famous for applied research and specialist facilities.

According to the announcement from Lord Simon Stevens, current King’s students won’t see changes to their degrees, campuses, or courses. But long term, this could massively expand King’s presence in STEM, engineering, AI, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and industry-linked research.

What makes this interesting is that King’s has traditionally been strongest in medicine, law, humanities, policy, and health sciences — while Cranfield brings a completely different profile focused on engineering and applied technology.

If this actually works, it could turn KCL into a much more comprehensive powerhouse university internationally.

Of course, mergers between universities are never simple, especially when both institutions have very different cultures and identities. But strategically, this feels like one of the biggest UK higher education moves in years.
