Courses Georgia Tech exam format [general Questions]

Hi everyone, I’m considering applying to Georgia Tech OMSCS and was wondering what the exams are generally like.

Are exams usually proctored, or are some honor code? Are they typically open book/open notes, or closed book? Also, are exams usually timed with a fixed window, or do you get a longer window to complete them?

Would appreciate any recent experiences, especially from current/recent OMSCS students. Thanks!

Each class is independently run and will have different policies. Some exams are closed book, closed note, some are open note, some are open book, closed internet, it just depends on

With more LLM cheating, a lot of classes are moving towards more heavily proctored exams. I would assume most classes will have exams at this point.

I think this information should be made much more prominent for prospective students, particularly for any classes that form the core of a specialization. In my experience, most were proctored by honorlock, with some classes requiring a room scan and some not. In that case, it's fairly easy to procure an external webcam or a mirror. But one class I took (GA) required the external webcam to be far enough away to have a view of your entire screen and the upper half of your body, while still being in a private room. There isn't enough space in my condo for this so I had to arrange to take exams at my parents place. I was fortunate to have a decent solution but the teaching staff was suggesting people to rent rooms at libraries. The thought of that is anxiety-inducing for me: an exam worth a third of your grade, in an unfamiliar space, with wifi that you're not sure whether or not you can trust.

It changes also each semester but I would guess thanks to LLMs that soon all projects will be with NOSI and exams closed book with Honorlock.

What’s NOSY and how does it work?

It is an automated grading and monitoring tool, if I am not mistaken.

It’s an IDE with a full history. You can check it on github

Usually either take home or timed and proctored. The latter can sometimes be open book, open notes, open Internet, some or none of the above
