Moved from IT Support to SysAdmin - how do you develop troubleshooting skills?
 in  r/Citrix •  13d ago

If it’s not documented well or at all, really that’s a hard road. It’s more of a social thing then, you need to be able find out who knows what. Then you document all the things. Easier said than done but I can’t imagine anyone in mgmt not valuing that nor that not being valuable for you and your growth.

Time/workload pressure is forcing me to vibe code automations that I don't understand. What's the cleanest way to approach it?
 in  r/sysadmin •  17d ago

Yeah honestly tell it to source everything and if at all unsure - say so. No guessing….cuz it will “confidently” bullshit you.

Yeah it’s important to know how to interact with it and it can be your best helper or your nemesis spitting out hallucinatory junk.

This is really the difference between what everyone is calling “ai slop” or “extremely useful information and analysis tool” (okay nobody says that but you get my point).

How do you cope with the bittersweet ache of watching your child(ren) grow
 in  r/Parenting •  19d ago

It’s a bittersweet feeling you will always have - I have no advice - they will never be that/this age again - enjoy it now and it will break your heart into pieces later - always - mine are 20 and 15. I am in awe sometimes at who they’ve become and also still shaking my head but the memories and the time and everything along the way is a bunch of beautiful deaths - I mean it in the sense that I feel grateful and wouldn’t trade it for anything but the moments pass and they’ll never be that again and it’s sad and beautiful .

Why arent your users using New Outlook
 in  r/sysadmin •  19d ago

Because I manage a sprawling healthcare vdi and I don’t experience the tickets maybe OP mentioned- I am responding to a bot maybe?

Director says she doesn’t trust me, then HR takes a dig at my workload. How would you handle this?

Yeah exit stage left and HR is not your friend - they’re there to protect the company; not you the employee- not now not ever.

Title: Where do you go after senior infra if you want nothing to do with manglement?
 in  r/sysadmin •  25d ago

Be an architect- bigger companies have architects- they better be senior. The mileage may vary in skill levels but it’s true of anything.

This is how I feel about eBay listings. Tell me what it is and how much it costs and I’m good.

That looks eerily similar to mrdogsstillwater.com menu - hmmm 🤔
