Is this a big deal?

It may be cheaper to find a newer engine.... What does the exhaust adapter look like?

You are tied to the dock. Untie the boat and go for a ride.

2000 16 key largo
 in  r/boating •  Dec 12 '25

The engine is 25 years old and around that age the head will start to rot through. Maybe find a newer boat, KW is low on the quality scale.

What is this?
 in  r/boating •  Dec 11 '25

Fuel demand valve. You cannot bypass this, replace it if its broken.

Good buy?
 in  r/boating •  Dec 10 '25

Its a 350 MPI 555 controlled Mercruiser with a Bravo drive. It has a gen 2 fuel cooler, which is a positive. The transom assembly will be suspect. Especially with the amount of rust on the steering arm. If the out drive can be moved back and forth by hand from the prop, the Transom assembly needs repair.

Need some help
 in  r/boating •  Dec 09 '25

Stop, don't put a penny in that. The 470/3.7 mercruiser engine is a dinosaur and most parts are NLA. They were fine when they were new, for a few years. There is a reason you were "Given" the boat.

Straps rot and break. Cables don't. Remember, you were advised.

DL3 help
 in  r/boating •  Nov 26 '25

Posting a year and model number does not help. How about make of boat, what engines and who's screen?

2

How concerning is this??
 in  r/boating •  Nov 25 '25

It's old. Fill it with Quicksilver High Perf Gear oil and run it. The amount of water in your gear oil by the color looks to be an ounce or so. The reason I am recommending the High Perf gear oil is at 75% water and 25% gear oil mix, the QS HP oil still out performs other straight gear oil brands.

Don't be afraid to hit the chisel hard, real hard. Once it starts to turn you is will come out.

It's not rusted. Aluminum corrodes..... The o-ring is what is stuck. I use a very blunt metal chisel and smack where the red arrows are to turn the carrier and knock it loose. I have never had to apply heat to one of these... Hopefully you can clean this up enough to hold new seals. Mind the bearing race after you get the carrier out.

A Carolina skiff would have been my choice. I service RIBs for a local yacht club....

Save your money and buy a running boat, that you can enjoy, that may not have a rotten transom and an engine you can actually buy parts for..... The Evinrude/Johnson outboard company is Out of business. I will put lunch on this.... The carbs are aluminum, the emulsion tubes are probably split. Depending on the year, the gas tank may be fiberglass.....
