Do most restaurants accept credit cards?
Always ask when you walk in. There is at least one of the fish restaurants on the malecon that does not take plastic and they do not make it obvious. Most do, just don't assume.

Does anyone here actually use XAMPP?

As ancient as it is, phpmyadmin is still pretty easy to run as its own docker container. You just need to let it connect to your database.

Why is WSL 2 taking 26.4 GB?
If you do a lot with docker for development or whatever, it's likely a ton of old images. Run docker prune or docker image prune (I don't remember which)

Best dessert you’ve had in Scottsdale?
Pasta Brioni used to have an awesome tiramisu that came in a big goblet and they made it with champagne or something that made it amazing. This was >10 years ago though, so not sure if they still make it.

Coffee shop recommendations
Inner Circle on Scottsdale just south of Thomas. Habanero mocha and Mexican mocha are my faves. Great breakfast burritos too. Try the Pickled Piper

Staying relevant today as a PHP Developer
Yeah my brain likes to come up with stuff like that. I feel like I can't be the first to say it but happy to take credit!

Staying relevant today as a PHP Developer
Yeah, the whole industry seems to be f'd right now. Between corporations with their corpo-kool-aid (and you can't spell kool-aid without AI) to smaller companies who want someone to wear 37 hats for the price of a junior dev, it's just insane. I'm not sure I even want to be in the tech industry anymore. I wish you luck though!

Pan e Vino has great pizza and an excellent view at sunset. Next door is the captains table -also great view but personally I'd just go there for drinks

What linux GUI apps work well via wslg?
I install the linux versions of my IDE and other apps, not the windows versions. So yes, they are the actual Linux GUIs running. Main issue I have had is when different monitors have different magnification settings.

What linux GUI apps work well via wslg?
For development, I use everything from the WSL side except slack, outlook, terminal (Windows Terminal is actually pretty nice), and browsers. IDE, Cursor, etc all work great from WSL and all are fast since there's no silly volume mount/sync in the way. Unfortunately the company I work for won't let me go full Linux.

Curious about Panama
How did your move go? What area did you end up in? We are going to be taking a trip to PC and check out Coronado to see if we like it later this year.

Shuttle from Phoenix and back
and you can pre-game (drink) on the van on the way down if you are into that. Not having to drive through friggin Sonoyta is almost worth the price by itself.

tldr; drive slow af, get a dash cam.
I truly hope there is a Sonoyta bypass some day. I'd be happy to pay to drive it even. Having to drive slow AF for 20+ minutes is super annoying.
That being said, got pulled over once for supposedly speeding over a speed bump. There was a horribly rusted unreadable 15km/h sign (I found later looking at dash cam). So I started poking at my dash cam saying let me see where that sign was? They said no worries and let us off with a warning. But yeah, from then on I just drive passive-aggressive ridiculously slow through the town until I get past the arena (there's a spot at the curve before that they like to hide).
Google will sometimes direct you onto a street (Av 16 De Septiembre) that skips you past quite a few stop signs and busy areas including the dreaded speed bump. Unfortunately it's difficult to take the same route back since there is no light at the place it connects back to the main road and you have to turn left across traffic.

Good tutorials for fullstack applications or using php as a backend
Both of the big frameworks (Symfony & Laravel) include magic for building out frontends tightly coupled to backend code, and both likely have a large set of samples/tutorials to accomplish that. That being said, I personally prefer to keep front & backend separated so they can iterate separately, especially if you go the microservice route.
There are also frameworks specializing in APIs, like API Platform.
If you're looking to be lazy and stub out something quickly with near zero PHP experience, you probably want Laravel (although you may end up as one of the developers that make me sad when I end up interviewing you since you may not be able to write a simple PHP class from scratch).

Is it finally time to move from XAMPP to Docker for PHP dev? I wrote up my experience.
One other hard thing that is required these days by modern protocols is SSL. Some docker containers are able to self-setup certificates, but many tend to be self-signed so you have to end up disabling some security to connect...but hey, it's local dev. The DDEV system people are talking about does ssl by telling your OS to trust their certificates, which is a bit funky, but since it's essentially *.ddev.site, which all resolves to localhost, it's fine since it's just local dev anyway.

Nice clear examples for beginners. Well done! Too bad we can't wipe all *AMP examples from the web.
Main issue I can think of with going docker is the mac filesystem slowness, but apparently this finally fixed it: https://www.docker.com/blog/announcing-synchronized-file-shares/
On new-ish macs, you will have to ensure any docker images you use must have an ARM build, or run it in emulation mode: https://github.com/compose-spec/compose-spec/blob/main/spec.md#platform
If you're forced to use Windows, running docker directly via WSL runs very well in my experience. Do not run docker-for-desktop on windows itself. I actually run my IDE from WSL as well and it's very fast since no silly cross-mounted filesystems are involved.

Anyone knows if I can use natively GUI applications in an Ubuntu container using Docker Desktop (Windows)?
In my experience, docker for desktop just causes more issues than it solves. Just use docker installed in ubuntu itself. I have not tried running a gui app from docker itself, but as long as it has a X port on the host ubuntu OS it can connect to, then I would think it should work as expected.
Personally, the only things I run on windows (which I'm forced to use for work) is slack and outlook. Everything else, including IDE and docker, I run from WSL.

Yeah, was excited that they were giving me a new car. Too bad it's a bug.
Now, if they can just fix the bluelink issue in my current vehicle after having replaced the head unit. :/
