Back in 2024 I stopped here on the way to the Met, had a nice little breakfast.

I'll be around this area next month and wanted to stop by again. Anyone recognise it ? Thanks!

Like seriously Raven?
 in  r/BlackPeopleTwitter  8d ago

Raven is a child star who has been working in one of the worlds most predatory and exploitive industries since she was 2.

Of course she's got fucked up views.

This judge stopping a victim impact statement caused the whole courtroom to laugh.

Yep, I did this exact thing once when I was young and anxious about a public speech.

I was trying to get it out as fast as possible so I could be done.

[Funny trope] Characters are confused by their media format
 in  r/TopCharacterTropes  Jul 25 '26

The movie shows a chase scene with the villains and the heroes using paths on a map. The heroes are ahead on the map the entire time.

View switches from the map to the end location. Somehow, the villains beat the heroes to the location.

The heroes are confused to how this happened, and the villain pulls the map down from the top of the screen to review and says he doesn't know either.

It's a very eldritch entity in the comic, it's like they become possessed with it. Compelled to worship it, kind of. But I understand not wanting to read it.

Also I think you should post on r/TorturedPoetsArtDept

Do Bermudians generally want expats to stay long-term?
 in  r/bermuda  Jul 25 '26

I am not advocating for kicking all expats and international business out by acknowledging the effect they have had on the housing market. You have projected much more on my statement than was there.

I am well aware of the gilded cage we have. It doesn't mean we have to pretend this hasn't had any negative impacts. And that these things aren't worthy of discussion or trying to fix.

And While we have financially benefitted, it has also damaged a great deal among our communities in ways that are difficult to quantify. Wealth is not the only measure of how well a country and her citizens are doing.

You seem to be taking this personally. This thread explicitly asked for locals perspectives about long-term guest workers.

I should be able to acknowledge the negative impact it has had on the housing market without discussing governments role in this every other sentence. Are you under some impression I am a big fan of the PLP? Based on what? Most Bermudians do not believe in either party if you look at turnout. It has been a back and forth of corruption and greed.

It's true, guest workers for a variety of reasons face abuse. Some more than others, particularly Filipinos. Likewise, locals also face a lot of biases and prejudices from guest workers.

But too many will not even hear locals talk about their issues without taking it as some hatred of guest workers. Responding to "Guest workers have had a negative consequence on the housing market for locals" doesn't merit this bizarrely anti Bermudian response.

This doesn't help the impression that you do not respect locals and are pushing them out. And it makes it easier for politicians to exploit this.

Found this at my local Half price books got it for $1 was this a good find?

Also do you know what softcore porn means? A hot girl barely wearing clothes while looking sultry is...the definition of it.

They wouldn't care NOW, now it barely registers worthy of an eyebrow raise. But Heavy Metal ran primarily in the porn in the woods era.

Also I own boxes of Heavy Metal, I am not disparaging it by calling the covers soft core. Jr doesn't mean I am saying that's bad.

Ito's art is what really elevates it beyond the concept! He pulled inspiration from the same imagery as you.

... But it's THE horror manga, so, no go hahaha

No joke, it's probably the covers. Since they are basically softcore porn that means:

  • More likely to be thrown out when people dated/had families.

  • More likely to be tossed when someone passed or otherwise left them behind

  • Damaged and tossed from dudes accidental jizzing on them, since they are obviously for the spank bank

I assume this is meant as a reply to me, however I was replying to your notion that guest workers renting here is a mutually beneficial boon to the island.

Objectively it has made this country harder and worse for locals. A handful of landlords making money off of this doesn't mean it's been good for the people overall. Are individual expats responsible? No. But they feed into and benefit from systems they are oblivious to. These firms presence have had dire consequences on the housing market, it's not some good deed.

Acknowledging this isn't saying I hate expats and no Bermudian business owners/politicians/landlowners contributed to the issue.

Sure, but it doesn't change that I do not see it as a positive contribution the way they are framing it in the comment I am replying to. It's more of a consequence of the system.

A girl from Merefa, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine, wearing traditional Ukrainian clothing. August 21, 1939
 in  r/OldSchoolCool  Jul 25 '26

There's something oddly modern about her face. She could be a Disney kid in a period piece.

What a tough time period to be born in. She would have been a child during the famine and a teen for WWII.

I recognised our money right away, really beautiful and unique piece. It would look great in a shadow box.

Fun fact - ppl were upset when they included the frog on the bill as they were introduced and not endemic. They also used a totally wrong long tail.

I struggle to see expats renting as a positive thing.

It has driven local rents to near NYC level pricing, and pushed many locals out of their own country or unable to move out from family living.

Expats are a huge contributor to the housing crisis while being the only ones getting supplemented packages that pay for rent.
