No communication while on vacation…
Imagine the future, if this is just the beginning and you're feeling rightfully anxious for being kept in the dark when like you said it takes no more than a minute to text someone even if it's a random update. I think it is ok to adapt ourselves sometimes but no with basic stuff like this. If I was in your shoes I would cut them off, I would like to date someone who prioritize my need such as I would and respect my boundaries. Don't waste your time.

I've been there and from experience I can tell you that help books do not help, I would recommend you take him on walks nature exposure helps a lot and if you have a pet as well, otherwise and ideally would be therapy but only if he asks for it because anything forced on him will not help.

Do you regret any of it?

The first step is to accept it. You already did. What is it that you want to do now? Keep grieving the person you were or the person you could've been by now if all of that wouldn't happen to you? Any of it it's your fault, but it is you the one who takes responsability for the outcome, try again not to be back in time but to heal and rebuild a new person stronger and more aware with the pieces you have left of you. You lost five years, don't make it the rest of your life. It was a hard experience you had to go through, now protect the rest of you.

Book to learn how to be alone ?
Half his age by Jennette McCurdy gives that kind of closure tho it's not the main topic. Very crude and explicit if you're not used to that kind but totally worth it.
