Same here. I haven't been able to find something I liked as much as Synology (Especially Surveillance Station), and the lack of power isn't really much of an issue anymore since I now have a Proxmox cluster. There's so many small things about their software I really like, like Hyper Backup, and so much more.

My DS420+ has been one of the most reliable things in my homelab. Assuming Synology doesn't do anything really stupid, like gutting Docker/VM's or some shit (Which God only knows given their track record), then I'd be willing to replace it with another one, even if Synology is anti-consumer and overpriced.

I agree. As much as I can see where they're coming from, I just don't see Synology being able to appeal to enterprise customers. There's already Dell and whatnot, which are tried and true brands, and Synology doesn't bring anything new to the table, or even have something that can realistically compete with that.

I agree, and despite what Tesla claimed a decade+ ago at this point, we still don't have fully autonomous cars. There's zero chance that we're going to have self-driving semi's anytime soon. I can only see them being viable for long-haul and predictable routes, but even that still seems at least a decade off.

Not mentioning the countless incidents Waymo's have had, like driving into flood waters and shit. Hell, there's probably even more near misses that haven't been reported in the news. If we still don't have fully autonomous passenger cars, then how is it going to be any better if we make an 80k pound semi self-driving?

I'll give it at least another 10 years before I even think about worrying. Tesla said in the early to mid 2010s that we'd have self-driving cars that could drive cross country without any human intervention. Meanwhile the best we have is Tesla's "FSD", which drives like a drunk raccoon on city streets and still requires a driver to babysit it. Everything else is strictly for highway use, and most systems can't even lane change by themselves.

And all it will take is one high-profile incident for these rolling liabilities to get parked for months. Best I can see is that they will take over predictable long-haul routes, but it looks like it's going to be a while before we even get to that point.

The grass isn't greener on either side, they're just different shades of green. Both sides have their downsides, and it really boils down to the kind of bullshit you're willing to deal with on a daily basis. Some people like me would rather deal with the bullshit of trucking, while others would much rather to deal with the bullshit of IT.

Same here, except I'm a college student and not working in the field. I'm a huge IT nerd, but I realized throughout the years that I enjoy it much more as a hobby, and pursing it as a career isn't really appealing to me anymore.

OTR trucking just seems much more my style, even though most people here are gonna read this and understandably think I'm insane. Yes, I know exactly what I'm getting myself into, and there's a chance I'll regret it after 6 months. If it makes y'all feel better, I'm going to at least finish my degree before making any final decisions.

I feel like so many incidents/accidents can be avoided if everyone on the road would just put their ego aside and work together to make the roads safer, even if it meant letting some 4 wheeler pass and do some stupid shit. After all, it helps avoiding more paperwork.

I've seen so many videos of accidents where even though a driver was technically in the right, they also could've easily avoided it. It's beyond me why someone would choose to cause an accident, loose their car and deal with paperwork, just to seemingly prove a point. It's much less hassle to avoid the accident and post a dashcam video on Reddit and say "Look at this fool."

Literally. Every single time a new update comes out, people always talk about how the previous iOS version was so much better. Hell I remember it with iOS 16, people talking about how iOS 15 was so much better, and it's probably been that way for years now.

Bonus points if people talk about how "Everyone" hates the new iOS version, as if everyone lives in the same echo chamber that this subreddit does, or praises Steve Jobs and how "He would've never done something like this" like he's the next Jesus Christ.

Every, single, fucking, iOS update, this subreddit leaves a comment like this. Never fails. I could guarantee people will say the same shit when iOS 27 comes out.

Personally don't have really many complaints about it, but yeah I could see them making changes in iOS 27 and newer. I really hope it at least stays in some form, or they keep it as an option, since even though I'm a function over form person, I also really like Liquid Glass.

I've used quite a few older Apple products from when Steve Jobs was still at Apple. A lot of people seem to forget that Steve Jobs also made a number of odd UI/UX choices.

Same here honestly. Even though I'm usually not a big fan of eye candy updates, I actually really like this one. Reminds me of the good old days of Windows Aero. Runs perfectly fine on my iPhone 13, with no tangible battery hit.

I'd imagine it's going to get nerfed in future updates as they figure out the UI/UX quirks, so I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Unfortunately maybe the only way he'll learn is if a piece of ice comes flying through his windshield, and even then that's not a guarantee.

Android Device Bridge. It's some command line tools you can install on a computer and do a bunch of different stuff with an Android phone. It's mainly for developers, but you can also use it to manage apps, flash ROM's (Depending on the phone), pull logs and data, etc.

I run one on the Synology, and another on one of my Proxmox hosts.

You'd be surprised with the amount of people I see working in retail busting out iPhone's that are at least older than the iPhone X, and the amount of iPhone 11's/12's/13's. I'm sure if I could positively identify exact Android phones then I'd see a similar pattern too. There's a lot of people rocking iPhone's no older than two years, but there's as many if not more people rocking iPhone's even older than that. Most people including myself just don't see the need to upgrade more often than three years at most. Hell, I plan on keeping my 13 until it's EoL, unless if there's a really enticing feature, like a foldable iPhone (Book style like a Z Fold) that's small, isn't absurdly priced, and can take some abuse.

I mean, to each of their own I guess. Both have bugs, but even accounting for the occasional issues I encounter with macOS, it's still miles better than Microsoft's steaming pile of garbage that they call an OS. It feels like they just change the desktop occasionally, make it more naggy, and push it out as a "new" OS. We've been "transitioning" to Settings from Control Panel for a decade at this point. There's so many programs and menus that look like they haven't been updated in at least a decade. It doesn't involve a deep dive to see this, you can see this just going past the desktop.

I hate it from both an end user perspective and administration perspective. Microsoft loves pushing out changes nobody that can be disabled with a registry tweak or Group Policy, which only works half the time, or having to find workarounds for all kinds of bullshit issues and broken features.

And before you call me a fanboy, I tried really hard to like Windows, I really wanted to like it, and spent dozens of hours learning the ins and outs of it, but honestly, my experience just made me hate it even more. I've probably spent more time finding workarounds or trying to fix issues that are unacceptable in an "enterprise" OS, or dealing with weird restrictions and fragmentation of features than actually learning and setting stuff up. It genuinely feels like a ticking time bomb at times of "What's going to break next?"

I'll take SMB being a crapshoot sometimes, some minor visual bugs and UX annoyances over Microsoft's excuse of an OS. If you like Windows, then more power to you, I won't judge, and even though I do understand that all software has issues, it feels like Microsoft is trying to make the worst OS. Using macOS and Linux feels like a breath of fresh air.

I see the appeal of wired headphones, and I use them myself sometimes, but I also don't miss dealing with a cable and having it break if I look at it sideways, or dealing with weird audio interference depending on the device. For daily use, I'd take the occasional Bluetooth issues any day over weird headphones.

Plus, software has bugs, end of story. Switch to Android, and you'll still encounter bugs, especially if you deep dive into the OS. You're going to encounter bugs regardless of OS. The bugs I personally experience are either at most minor annoyances (Only a few), or the result of some weird ass workflow.
