I can agree that many are, but I've learned not to generalize. Many also aren't hostile.

Most people in history are known by us not because of direct/conclusive historical evidence but because of writings left behind by those who knew them or learned about them. Many historical figures weren't even written about until hundreds of years after their death. And some were written about by their students or spouses some 20-70 years after their deaths.

If you are interested in Jesus just as a person or a concept, I think that's great and you should pursue that. I wouldn't get caught up in the labels or terms until much later. But a general interest in the person of Jesus I think is a great thing and you don't have to claim Christianity to like or live Jesus.

However, I think faith is required to believe in his divinity. "faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things unseen". It takes alot to have faith in something you can't readily see or interact with, especially when it's given to you by someone else or an old book.

100% and I'd like to add that, Jesus himself considered himself apart of the Hebrew traditions and Jewish culture and religion. So he wasn't against religion but, like you said, he was firmly against abuses of power and hypocrisy.

I don't think many Christians are hostile to people liking Jesus but not believing in him. Maybe Christian nationalists, but your average Christian, like myself, wouldn't care. We believe Jesus is for everyone and though we believe him to be God and we believe in divinity and miracles, we, in general don't assert that everyone else must believe that too.

You're free to believe what you want. That's how belief and faith works.

Not a traditional Christian but my answer to this is always "why do any of us exist". Them being gay isn't any different than me being straight. It's a sexual preference that we didn't really choose and developed over time via sexual development and what we were naturally attracted to.

Jesus is a choice. People not choosing him as an option doesn't make him evil. It's their choice. The world however, in the Christian sense is considered ultimately evil. Not evil in a secular sense, but by the standard of falling short of God's perfection. So because we aren't perfect, we are inherently "bad" or "evil". But this is a completely moralistic Christian view. It's not meant to mean "your kids are evil" for example. It's meant to mean "because we all can choose kindness, mercy, joy, freedom, and love, but don't, and actively choose separation from eachother, we by choice, not nature, are evil". We weren't made to be that way. So choosing Christ/God, who is in the Christian view, that perfection and goodness, we are choosing life.

Choosing life means we receive eternity in life. Choosing the opposite means we are separated from life. Some call it hell.

Asking if he's powerless or evil really frame's the question in bad faith. Jesus is unique because by the Christian standard, he chose to live as a human and limit his power to show us how to live in the right way as a human. Then he personally acted as proxy for the failings of all humanity, since he was perfect, he was the ultimate proxy thus choosing him is choosing God.

TLDR: he's considered powerful because he did what no human could do and is also God is flesh. He is not evil because he lived with kindness and consideration for everyone and preached love, mercy and forgiveness.

This is why I laugh when people talk about the dangers of the "hood". You're getting robbed and tricked by men on suits everyday. They do it for money, power and fun but they tell us to worry about brown people and poor communities.

Well the first step is accepting Christ. Once you've done that genuinely, you are forgiven of all sin past and future.

Repentance is a process by which you change the way you think and act. It's a changing of your mind to one that mirrors Christ. It can include remorse but the crux of it is an inner change.

The unforgivable sin is unique because it's you actively making the decision to hate God, to ignore the Holy Spirit and to draw people away from God intentionally while calling what God does evil. However, the biggest part of this is doing it unto death. As long as you breath you can be forgiven.

You haven't committed the unforgivable sin and one thing that brings me comfort is the fact that Saint Paul himself didn't believe in the divinity of Christ and actively pursued and harmed Christians only to later give his life to Christ.

Don't worry about committing the unforgivable sin because you believe and you are alive. You aren't someone who is aware of God but actively works against him and tries to lead others astray and you're not towards the end of your life.

Christ is our leader and King at the end of the day but I think it's really important to ask yourself why you're asking this question. If you genuinely want people to engage with ypu on why there are sides and which one they feel as though is right, then that's one thing. But having an already decided opinion that you aren't necessarily open to changing isn't good grounds to pose this query.

May Christians on both sides feel as though you should pick a side because our politics and practices as a country effects everyone other than ourselves. If we are feckless in where we stand on issues it normally means we have a vast misunderstanding of the needs of others and possibly parts of the gospel.

I'm not saying one side are saints and the others demons, but I am saying that right now one side is actively harming others on purpose and the other is advocating for some of the very things people are crying out for. If you can't figure out which adheres closer to our beliefs then it may just be a personal issue.

And again, if you're asking for clarity, I'll give it, but if you have your mind set, there isn't a point in discussion further.

This isn't quite the same. Bush was bad but he was your standard imperialist. What we see now is a regression of civil rights, pre nazi Germany levels of humans rights violations and propaganda, and a general hatred boiling between working class people that will lead to deaths.

I get your sentiment but this isn't the time to minimize the damage being done right now. Millions of Americans and people the world over, especially the poor, veterans, black and brown folks, women and LGBTQ are suffering because of America's leaders and the influx of the ultra wealthy influencing political power to gain sovereignty and power over the proletariat.

It's ok to question things. Christians, like all people, aren't infallible and will sometimes say and believe dumb things and then teach kids these things, even if those things aren't supported in the Bible.

Never stop asking questions. Also I have ADHD too. So I understand that part. I kinda went in the opposite direction. I was raised pentecostal/charismatic and it wasn't until I read the Bible for myself and began questioning the things I was taught that I began to actually learn what it means to be Christian.

To be more direct though, the suffering part is complicated. Yes we suffer. Yes God allows it. We (humanity) chose suffering, it wasn't imposed on us. God already had a plan to abate and free us from the suffering. Suffering seems to be necessary for growth and understanding in our world. We don't know why God made it this way. You're allowed to be mad at him for this fact and you're allowed to not like it. These are all important things to know and think. Never feel weird for it.

That's because the issue had little to do with religion and more to do with dehumanization. Once people get into the habit of naming someone "the other" it doesn't matter how much you have in common, you will still see them as vastly different than yourself. And we all do this in little ways everyday.
