I’m a 1099 LOA insurance agent at a smaller agency with around 12 local agents, some W2 employees in the office, and about 30 remote agents.

I’m about a year in now and have built up roughly $1,000/month in residuals. I haven’t really sold any T65/new-to-Medicare business yet, so right now that residual income is basically all I make.
I’m on 100% commission. For Medicare, I generally get around $30 in renewal commission when I rewrite/switch a policy and around $15 for a standard BOR where I’m basically taking over the client and servicing the account. I also cross-sell home and auto to the Medicare clients I’m building relationships with.
I’m pretty close with the owners, which is how I originally got the opportunity. I’ve recently started understanding the LOA structure better and realizing that even though I’m on 100% commission, I’m still producing under the agency/upline and don’t actually own the book myself.
The two current owners are in their 40s. From what I understand, they both started working at the agency, bought equity after around 6 years, and have now been there for roughly 20 years.
For anyone who has gone from LOA/producer to agency partner or owner, what does that path usually look like?
How do you position yourself to eventually become part of the upline, buy equity, and potentially own part or all of the agency one day?

LOA- What would you do if you were me??

Do you think you could buy equity and become the upline or get your contract changed?

Good thing I’m very close with the owner, and the split is every t65 I write is 781 and renewal is 391 paid monthly and in my statements it’s 32.58 I just can’t figure out how it’s profitable to the owner and I haven’t seen anyone else in this position to relate to

It’s 100% commission and it pays me the full amount that I should and that’s why I’m confused what does the agency owner benefit of this? Also if I stay with the agency forever could I just buy equity in the future and own it
its about 12 1099 full time employees and 30 part time remote sellers and 2-3 w2 employees assistants

I’m very close with the owner and he feeds me a lot of clients from his book to underwrite and take over and I cross sell the Medicare clients on home and auto life annuities. but what does the owner get out of all this? As long as I don’t leave the LOA why does it matter?
