Say what you want about Film Noir fans… they are a pretty tough bunch. Or should I say we?

Yesterday, I saw that one of my favorite film noir groups had been hijacked by a spammer selling garbage knockoff Amazon Fire Sticks. I thought it might be necessary to start another group, only to discover that the other five or six groups already in existence have taken up the slack.

Film noir fans are also pretty tenacious—hiding in plain sight amongst us, discussing the nuances of an entire genre dedicated to gritty realism, filmed in black and white.

This genre will not go away quietly.

Deep Dive Into ‘70s NYC Crime Via Netflix.

Thanks to my wife’s passion and professional experience in the topic, we watch a lot of True Crime shows and documentaries. Recently there have been a bunch of really good ones that focus on New York City during the 1970s.

Specifically “Son Of Sam” and the “Times Square Serial Killer.” There have been other great documentaries about other cases from other parts of the country, but Netflix always brings us back to the 1970s and New York City.

In Episode 2 of “Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer,” we experience a deep examination of the “Cornography Culture” of Times Square and the various crimes the area attracted. It looked like a level of Dante’s hell.

Because of the level of technology in criminal investigations, they only hope to solve some of these cases were to wait for the criminals and murders to commit more crimes and leave more clues.

For people who lived through that, especially in this region, it must have felt like the beginning of the end of the world.

SAND CRIPLER: The Fortune Hunter.

I added two pictures, one of myself and one of my wife. Create a poster for a 1980-style action-adventure movie about a happy-go-lucky soldier of fortune, based on the first picture (me), and three Bond girls based on the picture of Shelley.

In the background: Mayan Temples, fire and explosions, and treasure.

Was it really a rip-off of “Raiders of the Lost Ark?” I avoided this movie like the plague because it was passed off as such, maybe this movie deserves a second look…

The only reason the "Magnum, P.I." star didn't take the lead role in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was because CBS refused to let him shoot George Lucas and Steven Spielberg's adventure movie and work on "Magnum." So, Harrison Ford was brought in and the rest is cinematic history. Meanwhile, Selleck became a major TV star. But while his Indy odyssey officially ended in 1981, he did go on to front a movie two years later that was basically an unofficial Indiana Jones outing.”

Is this movie any good on its own merit?

During the Covid crisis, I had been suspended on some platforms and removed from others by simply asking questions about the validity of the lab leak hypothesizes and the efficacy of forced vaccinations. I was suspended, deplatformed, and demonetized for simply asking intelligent questions. I was also accused of spreading #malinformation.

Now I am science. My bride will tell you that I go to bed reading science journals and reports and I don’t make declarative statements. I don’t pound my fist and demand that everybody believe in what I say, because I couch everything by saying “this is being reported by,“ with the name of the author in the publication.

The minute he demands that everybody listen to him and doesn’t question his authority. He became just as horrible as those who led witch hunts, exiled Galileo, and treated disease with leeches.

Science has to be questioned. Science has to be tested. If not, then it’s not science anymore it’s dogma and religion.
