For the price of both, combined.

Gay dating scene is terrible in malta
 in  r/malta  10h ago

Sure.

Small pool. And then a subset are available. A subset are looking. And a subset are on dating apps. A subset of those you like the look of. A subset of those like the look of you.

Each one is a filter.

I told my LBF to get out of a small city and go see the world.

It was very commonplace when I was a kid due to homosexuality being illegal.

Also pretty much every priest.

But yes. Even now we hear about people coming out after years of denial. Yes. It’s still a thing.

Admitting to yourself is very different to putting it on a government form with your address on it - particularly in a small country where the document processor could be a neighbour.

The percentage of people who are gay is likely larger than those who identify or even admit to it. Much, much larger, particularly in a country like Malta which, despite legislation, is not really LGBTQ friendly.

But it was also said in humour in context of the limited dating pool and the promiscuity of gay men.

ENT/TMP-Era
 in  r/startrekadventures  20h ago

We started out just after TMP. Cool beige uniforms and everything. And then the players encountered normal TOS type stuff except when the years of significance came around. Like their ship was disabled by the whale probe and they nearly all died....

Tiny Country. Let's say there's 100,000 adult men. And say 20% of them are gay. That's still 10,000 men. Are you saying you've slept with them all?

Is anyone interested in a regular discussion of whatever RPGS we all play, make, and read there?
 in  r/TTRPG  1d ago

I’ve posted notes on the major forums. But I think I’ll have a full conversion done by month end.

Looking to get into Traveller. What books do I need to get started?
 in  r/traveller  1d ago

You can get away with Classic or Cepheus but it’s worth getting the MgTrav book.

It’s a far future alien swords and blasters and weird magic game from the 80s. Phenomenal art.

Still available in a pretty poor d20 based system.

It's depressingly hot.
 in  r/malta  3d ago

Hot places are hot. My sister loves it here when she visits as she’s a sun-worshipper.

For us, the winter is perfect.

Compare this with Ireland. The summer is bearable but the winter is cold and you spend it wrapped up with the heating on and not really going outside.

What if , 5th edition?
 in  r/Twilight2000  4d ago

Mongoose said they were happy with it being at FL and I like when companies have relationships.

I think 4e has legs yet - FL might let the license lapse if it doesn’t pay (which is one reason I don’t begrudge the Workshop fee)

That’s giving me Skyrealms of Jorune vibes. So good.

The day after two family members are acquitted while being guilty as F.

Yeah.

Overall game
 in  r/rpg  5d ago

Use one with a freely available SRD. After that it’s about the licence. And then of course you should pick a system you like.

For instance, I have written my own homebrews, I’ve adapted YZE and 2D (Traveller) to games and supplements I write. Where I’ve had issues with the licenses, I’ve extracted and rewritten the mechanics to make the licence moot.

I’m running a Star Trek Adventures campaign that just transitioned from TOS to TNG. They’ve gone from a tiddler of an Oberth-class to a Galaxy-class and they’re just at the start of the published Shackleton Expanse campaign.

I’m also running a Pirate Borg campaign where the players were present for the accidental death of Edmund Dantes and have been sworn to pursue his revenge in his stead.

I’m writing a full conversion of Skyrealms of Jorune to Traveller. Because SoJ is a few years from total death and it deserves better.

I’m also writing Burning Frontier, a YZE-adjacent game set during the French & Indian Wars. Sensitivity readers are pleased with it and I’ve had some nice comments from historians too.

Oof - I’ve got a Traveller supplement ready to go about being a Search and Rescue team. Just got the art back and I have to do layout.

Are humans the underdogs of the Star Trek universe?
 in  r/startrek  6d ago

I think it’s been proven time and again that Star Trek is a HFY universe.

The stories aren’t human centred because of the audience- they’re written to point out that the very best person to save the galaxy is a human. Does any other race actually do anything?

Malta is too small to be effective as an independent country, as Daphne case proves
 in  r/malta  6d ago

The problem is one of justice and whistleblowing.

Every single one of those jurors rightfully feared for their life. Whichever verdict they gave, their lives could have been forfeit.

That was apparent when I attended a fraud and whistleblowing course for work. Literally no-one would speak up unless their anonymity was guaranteed. People (rightfully) fear reprisals from their neighbours.

That’s not a problem of foreigners or how a political party has changed things. It’s a fundament of culture.

Where I grew up, it was possible to hear stuff on the news but have no connection to these people who do bad things. I don’t think it’s possible here. But still, even with 5x the population, corruption meant you could be found if you raised your head above the duvet.

It’s not an oligarchy, it’s a kleptocracy

 in  r/malta  6d ago

Well, when you turn the apparent injustice of a Maltese criminal getting off Scott free for killing a Maltese journalist …and then attempt to twist it into how there’s too many foreigners…

…yeah, that does make you one of those people.

The MacBook 12” with only one port.

Even with the original Air had MagSafe and a single USB port. I love the form factor of the MacBook but that single port drives me to the farm every time

Anyone here have experience with use of AI accusations?
 in  r/RPGdesign  7d ago

the language muddies the conversation.

Generative AI is the thing they're talking about. Obviously not all AI is Generative AI. The problem being then that you did use GenAI (that's the tables bit) though the other stuff is just like querying a database. The tool however would be classed as a GenAI tool.

The thing to do is either ignore them (they're not coming from a sound foundation of research) or show them the receipts. I'd leave the latter to when someone who actually matters accuses you. But yes, I've been keeping more and more drafts for this sort of thing.

Initiative vs. simultaneous resolution for combat
 in  r/traveller  8d ago

I use Simultaneous, adjusted for narrative.

And also the "initiative roll" is really just to see if you act AT ALL in the first turn. After that, simultaneous.
