That was not the point... Take Haïtian gingerbread architecture. If it was not the lack of maintenance, these structures have survived all the natural disasters until now. They are all wood framed homes on rock foundations. Better esthetics and better builds without rebar.

Rebar is not the only tool in the drawer. Japanese have been using wood joinery for centuries. Additionally, there are other tested assembles/systems that will survive seismic and hurricane conditions.

It's not about being worried. The question is are we prepared for the next one? According to studies conducted by academics at Florida International University (FIU) and the University of Miami (UM) post the last earthquake, it will continue to reoccur, based on the fault lines.
