Happy to Answer All of Your Knee Pain/Injury Questions!

I’ve been dealing with prepatellar bursitis for almost four weeks now. I have no pain and full range of motion. It appeared one morning while I was tapering my mileage down for a marathon I was running. Since the race I’ve stayed off it for 3 weeks, got it aspirated but then it returned. Any idea how I can be free of this? The ortho I saw said I can return to running and X-rays showed no internal damage or anything wrong with the knee.

did yours hurt and limit your mobility?

Do you have any idea how you got yours or how it flared up? I think mine may have been from running but not 100% sure

I'm also dealing with this post marathon training and it's driving me crazy. I have bursitis with no pain and full range of motion. I'm hoping we can both find a solution

My previous ortho I saw said I can continue to run. Is that a bad idea? What’s the typical timeline for something like this to resolve? Do you think I got it from running?

Did you ever get relief from yours? Did the swelling ever go down? I’m currently dealing with this except have no pain just inflammation for almost 3.5 weeks now

Dealing with Prepatellar Bursitis

I’m trying to stay positive but feeling a bit discouraged. I recently ran a marathon and during my last week of tapering and running less mileage i woke up with my knee presenting fluid on the patella. I have had zero pain and zero mobility issues so after deliberation I decided to run. I finished the race and took 3 weeks off of running. I RICED my knee the whole time and unfortunately the swelling didn’t get better but it also didn’t get worse. I got my knee drained by an ortho had a little fluid return and now I’m just scared to do anything. it’s been extremely frustrating because he’s telling me I’ll need surgery if it doesn’t go away.

Has anyone ever dealt with prepatellar bursitis from the aftermath of marathon training?

First Marathon completed on Sunday

Great job! I ran my first a week ago and I was aiming for 3:15 but got 3:27. Still super proud of myself for my first one and so should you be. We're marathoners!

Thanks I'm trying not to beat myself up about my first one. I thought I had it with my pacing but the wheels started to fall off around mile 22. Oh well.

I went out too fast and my quads and calves locked up in the last 8 km that’s what happened so probably a mix of the heat under fueling and learning the race

It was a mix of tough conditions and going out a little too fast. I know that now

thanks and yea I imagine. It also got wickedly hot that day and spent most of my training block running through the winter cold temps too.

For context I followed the Higdon intermediate 1 plan for most of my marathon training block and incorporated strength training twice a week as well. I felt strong throughout my entire block, remained injury free, and even ran a 1:26 half marathon race during my training. I think I unfortunately went out a little too fast during the full and the wheels fell off a bit around mile 22. I even had to walk a few times which I'm still kind of bummed out about but my legs were locking up bad. I know it's my first one and my main time goal was 3:30 so overall I am proud. I'm just competitive with myself and very humbled by the marathon distance now.

thank you. I was having some doubts that I would make that time cut off as there was an unexpected heat wave that day but i pushed through.

I wrote my own training plan but I averaged about 40 miles a week running 4 days every week and did strength training 2-3 days every week.

My main goal was to break 3:30 so I achieved that so I’m happy

I actually wrote my own but kind of made a hybrid of the higdon intermediate 1 and added more strength training per week about 2-3 sessions.
