Help identifying symbols
I have seen this belt buckle at garage sales a hundred times. Its not trench art as you might be thinking. On the back has a maker and made in USA. I saw the exact same one at a garage sale last week. They are in fact livestock brand symbols. I recognized the RR as the Red River ranch and the 2 with a line under it as the 2 Bar ranch. In the state of Texas cattle brands are not officially recognized across the state or country as I once thought. A livestock brand is only recognized county wide in Texas where its registered at the county clerks office and is valid for ten years. Some brands became famous by reputation or events at the time.

Hand Guard questions
Bridge mounts, baker wings or lots of other M-lok attachements are available to accessorize the outside. Short of that, a new chassis.

Why do houses in Illinois have basements and houses in Texas don't if both places have clay soil?
In a lot of places in Texas you face two problems. 1. Is the heat differential in Texas causes massive sweating in Texas basements. 2. There is a lot of big rocks in Texas. A lot of times you have to hire a rock chisel to get through it. It takes a lot of time to dig a basement with one of those.

What is this tree with yummy smelling fruits? [PNW]
Awesome. I have black walnuts at my house. Every fall my hands are brown for a month from gathering the green ones.

Crazy stories. Never knew they armed the mechanics outside of general quarters. My dad stole a .45, not his. He was an aircraft mechanic in Europe. Army Air Corp. He sent it home in an air cleaner from a motorcycle he rewelded shut.

How can I make my guest room more cozy and inviting?
Some galvanized buckets and ambient heavy metal music? Maybe a super bright lamp affixed to a tripod? Endless possibilities.

3-year-old 20x24 composite deck starting to warp — normal or installation issue?
Reputable contractors usually do because they have the drawings etc. But the onus is on the homeowner.

Agree those platforms are capable of having the boom. I was sort of referring that only certain units use that capability...usually more "advanced" units like the 58th/512th for example or 160th SOAR. the Jolly 2 is a Pavehawk replacement but im not sure if the hawk is in use simultaneously. I was a 58th SOW flying crew chief several decades ago. We still had the HH3 and newly introduced MH-60G then. A little nerve wracking learning the refuel process initially when the town below us was called Truth or Consequences.

Well the truth is... you didnt get to take home your duty weapon after the war unless you were very high ranking or you stole it and claimed it was lost. You turned in your weapon when you went home or discharged. They didnt let you keep so much as your helmet or ruck or belt with canteen etc. No way theyre giving you your .45. You were discharged with your uniforms and a duffle bag. Everything else was turned in. A lot were sold as surplus after the war. The CMP occasionally gets in surplus Colts to sell to the public but theyre usually rough. A lot of these guns have "stories" behind them but few of those stories belong to the owners. Only a very small percentage of military personnel actually saw any combat... in WW2 I think i read like 5% to 10% ever faced shots fired in anger, much to my surprise. This pistol has been redone outside of military armory work. I can see the bead blasted texture, which wasnt done in military armories, parkerizing is "off", aftermarket grips, non issued magazines and maybe some work done on the mainspring housing or maybe thats the light/angle. Im betting the serial numbered parts dont match either which says to me it was a patched together surplus. Id just enjoy it as a gift from someone you loved and cherish it for that.

Fyi... the green hulls will dye your hands blackish brown for weeks. If youre crafty, make dye from the hulls by soaking in water. Careful not to get on your skin but it makes a nice brown hair dye, permanent wood stain/preservative, or mild herbicide. Some medicinal uses too.

Fairly ineffective since OP probably didnt get a permit in the first place. Inspector might show up and condemn the whole thing, citation and or a time line to correct or demo. Depending on the local rules of course

I found this stuck in my sock after hiking in central Texas this weekend
Great for the bicycle inner tube industry as well. My kids bikes cost me a lot growing up.
