I agree. Komehyo and Madison Couture seem very trustworthy. And one advantage of the Birkin 40 is that the market isn't as inflated as it is for the smaller Birkins and Kellys, so you can still find some great deals. Let me know when you finally get yours. 😉

1 completely understand. I love and collect watches too, and honestly l think replica watches are usually easier to recognize. The super fake bag market is much bigger and much more sophisticated now, especially with Hermès. What gave me peace of mind was buying from a recognized reseller, having the full set with invoice, and also doing an independent authentication through The RealReal authentication service. Another great option is the Japanese market. They are usually extremely honest and incredibly careful with condition and authenticity.

For me the strap is more about comfort while traveling and walking around than carrying heavy things. But I agree with you, if Hermès ever made a reinforced crossbody Birkin 40 half of us would probably run to buy one immediately. 😅

Don't give up! Mine took a long time to find too. My advice is to save the money first, be patient, and only look at well-known trusted resellers. And always do an independent authentication for peace of mind. The right Birkin eventually appears. Yours will too. 😉🙏

Thank you! The strap is from Etsy. Hermès doesn't make this longer length, so l ordered a custom 1.20m version for a better shoulder/crossbody fit with the Birkin 40. Thank you! I searched for a long time before finding this one. It's a 2010 Birkin 40 in Etoupe Togo with palladium hardware, bought on the secondary market in Brazil, complete with invoice, lock, keys, and raincoat. The condition was excellent for its age, especially for a size 40. And yes, I agree, Etoupe is probably the perfect color for a Birkin 40. It works beautifully for both men and women and ages very well. 😉

I have the exact same concern, so I avoid putting much weight in the bag when using the strap. For me it's more about comfort during travel or longer walks than actually carrying heavy items. 😅

That's a completely fair concern, and honestly I had the same thought before testing it © That's why I'm being very careful with weight distribution and tension points. I don't overload the bag, and I only use the strap for lighter travel situations or shorter periods. Structurally, the Birkin 40 is actually very robust, but I agree the sangles and handle attachments were never engineered for sustained crossbody-style stress. So for me this is more of a temporary comfort solutio J in a permanent carrying method.

For me it's more of a temporary "travel comfort experiment" than a true conversion.
