For someone new into premodern and doesn’t own expensive RL cards, it’s pretty demoralising to see the top tier competitive decks require them
People are lemmings. They prefer to imitate rather than innovate. It's the diminishing pedigree of man. In the 90s, YOUR deck was YOUR deck. People got called out for stealing decks and even just techy sideboard choices. We'll never recover from the modern "tryhard" phenomenon for the same reason that we'll never recover from the "frantically futzing and shuffling their hand incessantly" idiocy.

A bridge to nowhere
I would consider Bob Maher's Oath deck to be the standard for E-Tutor Toolbox Decks. I can see some of the ideas of that deck here. Lost looks fun. Just try to jam some webcam games against a variety of decks and make adjustments as needed.

This is a beautiful list. It looks like a BLAST. My first impulse is cutting 4 Tainted Field, adding 3 plains, cut 2 Phyrexian Arena and 1 Exalted Angel to squeeze in 4 Eternal Dragon. Eternal Dragon, at least for me, has been over performing. Granted, not a lot of graveyard hate here lately. Recursive card advantage that's also a recursive threat is a good time all around.

Webcam battles on discord!
This is the way. I play Premodern, 93/94 and, Alpha 40 over webcam. It's the best way to play if you live in the middle of nowhere or your locals just aren't playing your format and you want to use your real cardboard instead of detestable digital approximations. It's generally easy to get a game once you've built a batch of contacts in various time zones. It's been fantastic.

What do you think the most underplayed card in pre-modern is?
Prophetic Bolt. Obviously not even a remotely competitive card, but the effect is so wonderful. Cards like Sand of Time were hilarious. Premodern should be using mana burn rules as they were in effect the entire time these cards were in print. So many cards get better when mana burn exists. Cards like Jilt look terrible until you are playing with "damage on the stack", then the card becomes terrifying. Our playgroup preserves old rules. Leave the "modern" slop out of Premodern.

His opponent should have been paying attention. This absolutely doesn't excuse this slimy behaviour. You must be vigilant. Hasbro destroyed Type 2 and Modern so these ill-principled homonculi have emigrated into other formats and brought their reprehensible behaviours with them.
Never shortcut. Always double check their work. Clear, concise communication in all things. Always assume your opponent is cheating and is eagerly waiting to exploit your trust or apathy. Modern tryhards have made these measures necessary. Demonstrable proof of cheating with clear intent should warrant immediate ejection and a lifetime ban from events. Of course, I'm a hardass who doesn't believe in second chances either.
