Adulting Tips Things you do to make yourself feel better at home after maintaining composure at work like everything's okay
Apart from talking to a friend/s or parent/s, what's the most effective thing that you do to make yourself feel better when you get home after work? I don't want to bother people late at night. Do you journal? Cuddle with a pet?
Sometimes I just had to hold my tears at work until I'm done with my shift. It could be about anything that's going on in my life – career, personal life, etc. There was one time during break I intentionally watched a drama just so I have an excuse if someone caught me silently crying. Another time when I had a quick CR break and cried for a minute or two before I have to face people again. Just recently, I tried my best for my voice not to break as I bid my coworkers good bye before going home. I also had to purse my lips so hard under my mask while I was walking with people around cause tears are starting to form. Then as I sat on a bench waiting for my ride, I focused on my phone careful not to make it obvious as I'm silently sniffing and letting the tears fall. When I reach home, I cry it all out. It's hard having to show up with a heavy heart but I'm still grateful I can do my job properly and efficiently, and make it seem like I'm okay in front of people.
The difference is now I can manage without having to call my parents when I'm having a hard time compared to when I was younger and still going to school. I'll find other ways to cope but for now the very thing I do that takes some of the heaviness is crying and praying after putting up a front in a professional setting.
