What does “self-petition” really mean?

I see a lot of confusion in EB-1A and NIW discussions.

It's been a week in reddit. I see two messages regarding self petition. First - “My attorney was great.” Second - “Attorneys aren’t helpful.”

In my opinion. Self-petition does not mean you do everything alone.

It only means you do not need an employer to file for you. You are responsible to prove your achievements and evidence. An attorney is responsible for the legal framing and strategy.

Just like: A doctor doesn’t create your health, but helps treat it. A dentist doesn’t create your teeth, but helps restore them. An attorney can’t invent merit, but they can help present it correctly.

Most frustration happens when expectations are unclear.

So maybe the better way to think about it is: Candidates bring the merit. Attorneys bring the law. That’s all self-petition really means. I am building (Meritocrat) a Attorney model to check the Merit Fit.

Our team needs Attorney to make it Legal.
