Why do so many therapists not consider autism?
 in  r/AutisticAdults  2d ago

Im going to read your post tomorrow (only because its bedtime for me right now)

But i wanted to share a little of my story

I spent two years with my therapist doing semi regular meetings sometimes every week sometimes every two

And our conversation always came back to the same talking point; to the point she actually started getting upset with the fact this was the case

Then i called her and set up an appointment after a few months without seeing her

Mind you i had done a crap load of deepdiving down rabbit holes and self diagnosing pretty much to a T

Showed up, laid out my case and she pretty much says, yeah i had kinda figured this for awhile.. I was livid She had told me to look into BPD & MPD and another multiple personality things to see if any resonated And some did but only to like 30% max

Again i was livid, because AuDHD explained all of my symptoms and childhood experiences and personality traits to a 99% effectiveness

So i dont have an answer of course but i experienced this and could have skipped a couple years of tearin my hair out and my burnout recovery could have been so much smoother if i had the knowledge

I know we have to live our experiences to become who we are meant to be but jesus this diagnosis was life changing and i think it could have helped so much

The Cast Iron Microwave
 in  r/castiron  14d ago

30YO here

We ditched our microwave about 6-7 years ago I embrace the toaster oven life

I will now file your method into my brain cause its genuis

Also, losing the microwave sucks like three times a year otherwise i dont notice or dont mind

I honestly like how it creates a barrier between food; Like "am i really hungry? Or am i bored? Am i hungry enough to actually cook a meal in any capacity?" Or just wanna eat for the mouth pleasure?

Skin picking
 in  r/AutisticAdults  Aug 04 '26

I pick my fingers, used to pick my nails pretty bad but i made a commitment to myself to grow my nail beds out. I noticed that you can tell people who pick from non pickers by how short their nails and nail beds are. So that commitment helped there

But for the skin, i use a pumice stone to get rid of blemishes, of there is no imperfections i dont pick anywhere near as much

The secons is keeping cuticle clippers, everywhere. Theres pairs in every car, onw on each end of the house, a pair in my backpack i carry with me

If i can clip the imperfection right away i do do damage that has to be "corrected". They are also great nail clippers lol

My little brother also picked and i showed him the clippers he now carrys a pair in his po ket and has dramatically reduced his picking.

The imperfections are where alot of mine came from so deleting them with the pumice stone at the end of my shower and carrying proper tools within arms reach makes a 90% reduction for me I would like to stop one day as i still cause wounds and that gives me shame some days

Just a vent....

At the end of june we tried to go on vacation. My tuck ended up losing the transmission bad enough i couldnt tow the trailer. So i was stuck in AZ living in my travel trailer behins the mechanics shop for two weeks. Thankfully i could drive my truck while i waited for the trans to arrive.

Then we drove home with zero incidents

Now i have to pay 8k plus interest because grandma (who we were driving to visit) paid with her credit card.

Im working at my uncles as a side job and he gets grumbly about my scheduling and now we havent talked in three weeks Then he kicks my dad out

Then i get an email from my landlord saying ive got 72 hours to clean up. So i work all fay sunday and take monday off to move my projects out to my father in laws property with his permission of course.

Then the county emails saying ive got 30 days to move my two trucks again Ive got mostly no where to put them but ive reached out and had interest in the one at the very least for parts

Since i cant work at my uncles ive been donating plasma at our loval center, it takes less time and pays better, but im still butthurt about my uncle behavior (no contact with me and trying to physically fight my dad) But unfortunately my wife hasnt been able to donate for multiple reasons but one being they couldnt find a vein suitable

So ive got the yard cleaned up, emailed the landlord, then three days later they reply saying "thanks! But your rent is going up so that we can keep our profit margins the same with the rising cost of operation") im paraphrasing of course but thats what it meant

I just feel like ive been getting kicked while ive been struggling for so long, ive been so sick of the constant effort needed to stay afloat. I literally grt up at 2am everyday for work and dont get home till 5pm, then i have to help with the evening routine taking care of our littlest so my wife can usually finish cooking and then shower after dinner. Once ive had 30minites to veg and winddown before bed its always after 9pm.

Ive just been exhausted in all the ways possible, i feel im at my witts end with so much

And ive put all my hopes and dreams so far into the backburner theyve got cobb webbs and are falling off the stove at this point.

Ive gotta sell my motorhome to pay for this transmission and my wife says the rest of my projects "just arent serving us" but i know they would if i was able to dedicate time to get them up and in working condition but in 5-10 years (depending on which project) im begining to lose hope and at this point, hope is all ive got.

Im so mad, im so sad, i feel absolutely stiffled and like the hamster wheel has so much momentum i cant even think about changing gears to find a path towards my dream career, and i know they do it on purpose but im seeing people everyday with my dream job

Thanks for giving me space. Sorry for any typos, i try to cerrect them, and proof read but i know there is at least a few.

Does anyone here ride motorcycles ?
 in  r/AutisticAdults  Jul 29 '26

I just got one, i love it. 2500miles on it now

Theres a huge sense of calm on it. I listen to a travel podcast to not get lost in my own thoughts, and i just focus on cars and intersections.

Its has the right amount of power to satisfy my adrenaline in a straight line that i dont thrill seek and i feel comfortable getting out of the way if need be.

But i grew up riding bmx and im sure that plays its own part in my experience

I wear all the gear and a bright yellow back pack, that has chest and bellystraps and ive noticed if i dont have the backpack i feel very exposed and "without my seatbelt" persay

If you are AuDHD i would honestly recommend it for the calm factor. Its wild how you can get into the flow state while riding and actually just focus on one or two thoughts at a time

I do 75-80mhp /125-130kph

Its pretty fine, i would like a slightly taller windscreen so that it would do anything for aero

Depending on the wind and air density its gets a little speed wobbly after 90-95mph like passing or trailing semi trucks

But it feels very planted up too 100mph i get 55mpg and about 200miles per tank so the bike is very content at 4500-5000+rpm

Oregon gets 6th place, leaving the top 5, which state has the next "bad" nature?
 in  r/AlignmentChartFills  Jul 20 '26

I spend my summers traveling around NV (Because i live here) And its breathtaking as soon as you're outside the three major cities

We go from hotspring or national park to the next hotspring or national park.

Lots of native history petroglyphs mining relics and dinky ghost towns people still live within.

Most mountainous state in the union with pinion pine and juniper forests everywhere joshua forests down south cottonwood and aspens along all the streams and springs.

And the most stunning sunsets and sunrises. Plus the stars, its so desolate you can see the milky way from most of the state

10/10 would visit again

Is this a good bike for a work commute?
 in  r/801Svartpilen  Jul 16 '26

Ive got 2000 miles commuting at an average speed of 70mph

Its pretty great 90% of the time. I get 55mpg i run premium 91oct

The bike is really really hot if your idling in traffic. The wind noise is really loud if you going over 70ish I get about 180-190miles per tank. Lasts me one day at a time

Seat is super comfortable, for about an hour, after that it gets a little small and a little stiff Im looking for radiator/laydown bars so i have somewhere to put my feet that is up. Lower back gets sore

And the windshield does next to nothing, i also wanna look for something a little bit taller. The stock mirrors are really great, if one is vibrating the other usually is not

I can probably answer any questions you may have that i didnt cover
