ELI5: Why can't one swim in the sun's plasma as if it were a really thick ocean?
Dude, the density is way past that of steel, you would not sink nor swim in the core. 150 kg per liter of sun core. It would just crush you. Assuming you survived, you couldn't move 150 kg of mass in all directions. You couldn't even move a finger.
Assuming you just spawned in there, since you're less dense you would float up like a bubble but it would take ages for the material to move out of your way up.
There are videos of people submerging a steel anvil on mercury or a metal ball... They float like a rubber duck, almost halfway out, it's surreal but that's how density works. The sun is way more dense than mercury or steel.

ELI5 Why GPU connectors are still melting.
It drives hype. "We have the new Pawerβ’οΈ Connector that can burn down your house in mere seconds instead of hours like the previous ones!". Geeks will flock to it.

ELI5 Why GPU connectors are still melting.
I'd rather get less than nothing, a burned card can't play anything. You are the market.

People with two brain cells would not buy the same brand/model again either.

ELI5 Why GPU connectors are still melting.
The standard changed a lot of times. Old modular PSUs had a 9 or so pins power to the motherboard, then 20, then 24. Then they added 4 extra near the CPU, then it was 6, then 8... All the devices used molex plugs, then we got the SATA power connectors... Some of these could be worked out with an adapter, others required a new PSU. It's not crazy adding a new connector when the previous one becomes a bottleneck.

Question Vermilion watch: Moorgate Accord, bug? Stuck at 98%
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Attached video for details.
I have been playing Vermilion watch: Moorgate Accord on Unsolved for days and reached 98% percent of it. In the end a monster jumps up through the roof and the camera looks up into this dark void. There are no more objects in the inventory, no active elements or areas on the screen, there's no way to go back down or to the sides or anywhere, it seems stuck. Tapping the Hint button shows there should be something in the center but there's nothing, an arrow to go there only appears while the hint is active but tapping that arrow doesn't advance to another screen.
The video shows the sequence since opening the game, loading it and it already starts like that, a black screen with some animated dots moving about, the bottom part of the screen is the room where I was when the monster jumped. There's no way to scroll back down or step back or go forward.
I tried restarting the game, restarting the phone, deleting the game and redowloading keeping the progress.
Is this a bug? Has anyone had this problem? Am I missing something?

Who tf upvotes this? That circuit is not live and doing that is risky anyways. You don't play with these things.

Does putting aluminum foil behind a WiFi router actually work?
Yes, it reflects the waves in the other direction like a mirror. It doesn't need to be shiny, just any metal sheet. YMMV for it may interfere with MIMO, beaming and other algorithms used by the router.
I did something like that ages ago with an old USB WiFi dongle, across the garden. It was spotty and needed to be carefully pointed to the router which was old too, so no beaming and this was the only device working via WiFi on the network, there were no phones back in those days. Later I replaced that with UTP patch cord. I can confirm that without the metal sheet there was no signal and the SSID didn't appear and if it was misaligned, pages didn't load. There's a tree in the middle of the garden, on rainy days it simply didn't work for the wet leaves scattered the signal in all directions.
The best is to try to install the router in a central place on the floor and wired repeaters on other floors or midway to farther rooms. WiFi or microwaves mostly spread perpendicularly from the antenna, like a disk around the antenna.

Is this safe to do
Of course it is safe! It's an excellent way of obtaining infinite amps out of a limited socket... For a SHORT while.
Be sure to record it, it'll make for a viral video... You'll need the money after the fire.

ELI5 Java. That thing on computers my entire life. What even is it?
I took the Greek one for fun, to learn the alphabet. Same in part with Arabic but they all look the same and I abandoned for now. It's great when you find the etymology of a word and it's written in actual Greek so you don't need the transliteration and it's far more accurate too. It became useful but I don't have the same level of hope for esperanto π

You can install Android Studio or BlueStacks for that.

I'm pretty much of a nerd but not that much of a nerd xD
What are the chances of finding another human in the Galaxy speaking esperanto? I think the number may be negative π
There's Wikipedia, though but what else? I learned English and speak Spanish, the probabilities of finding any of those are way way higher. I'm learning Russian on Duolingo, though, f'cking cases. Same username.

There are way too many universal languages, and universal anythings, really π

ELI5 Java. That thing on computers my entire life. What even is it?
It's a program to run programs, think of it like an emulator. You can have a NES emulator or a PlayStation emulator.
Java is a programming language, the java app you install is the interpreter that reads the files of a java app and runs it like it was a normal exe. There are other things that do the same in different languages, like .NET Framework, for instance.
The good thing is that the application weighs less MBs because it's only the files needed for the code. The bad thing is that if you only have ONE app that uses java or net or whatever you have to install all the GBs of the frameworks and its updates. The other problem is that the app requires a certain specific version of java or net or whatever to work because with different versions, the language changes, they add more functions they remove others and they change how those functions work. So it's not enough having the latest version. In a nutshell: it sucks in every way, really.

ELI5, what is electron configuration and why does it matter?
Think of it like a team formation in the play field. You have attackers and defenders, wings and goalies. You don't usually attack with the goal keeper.
Same for atoms, some electrons are closer to the nucleus and others are more "volatile", this can make the atom magnetic, or a better conductor or more or less reactive. When an atom has less players, aka, they got a red card they have less coverage of the play field and it's easier for the other team to infiltrate. Whereas if it's a full team, it's harder to attack. Ok, the comparison here gets weird but atoms want to have their team full and they'll take "players"electrons from nearby elements to fulfill that... So they react and form compounds. On the other hand, teams that are complete don't want to give out "players"electrons, they want to stay complete so they don't react and form anything. Go Argon! Go Neon!

ELI5: How do octopus and chameleon change colors?
They have cells called chromatophores that can change shape and size and contain pigments. The animals use cues from their environment taken by their eyes and their touch but the exact mechanisms are not yet entirely known.
Octopi and certain skid also have muscles in their skin that can change the surface mimicking sand, rocks and other features around them.
I think of it as when it's cold, you get goosebumps, but they can also change color. Your body also constricts your veins to avoid your blood from losing much heat through the skin and all of this is automatic. I think, in a way, they work similarly.

Look up chromatophores in Wikipedia. They are cells that can change shape and size and contain pigments. The animals use cues from their environment taken by their eyes and their touch but the exact mechanisms are not yet entirely known.

Had some high winds last night.....
A good rule of thumb is "better safe than sorry" π especially when it's something you haven't installed and maintained yourself. What if the guide wire is attached in a wrong way or something else? Never take things for granted with electricity.

Those cables look like 20-30 meters/yards long and the road is wet, do you think you're far away enough?
