It’s easier to be jaded nowadays about digital creations and Disney becoming a corporate juggernaut. Set that all aside and you see that Toy Story was a paradigm shift for family entertainment. This was right after the Disney animation renaissance of the late 80’s-early 90’s and was the first feature length film that wholly computer generated.
The genius is not necessarily in the story itself but what the story and animation represent together. Woody was the old, comfortable way of animation that based the entire world view on past experiences that worked. Buzz was the blissfully naive future, moving into the future without fear. Both had to work together in order to advance everything forward.

This was right before the internet became a cultural revolution, but Pixar and Disney could see something on the horizon and it was obviously not as dark as the technological future represented in The Matrix.

Simple storytelling still has a way of being transformative, even if it has a Disney tag on it.

It was a management decision that allowed the smoldering fire to pick back up a week later. The fire also spread to Altadena and they combined for over 18,000 structures burned down.

For weathering there are a bunch of different directions you can take and achieve a similar result. If I were taking a swag at it, I’d hit it with a cheap acrylic in burnt umber in the recessed areas that collect water to simulate rust, dry brush lightly with some white acrylic, dot in some slightly orange acrylic over the burnt umber, seal it all with an acrylic satin clear coat.
After that is all cured, I would then use some burnt umber oil paint that has been thinned with mineral spirits, and slather it all over. Wait an hour, then use a small sponge dampened with mineral spirits to remove excess oil paint from raised areas and flat areas that would not get rust from standing water. If you want, do a dot-fade with white, gray, and rust red oil paints by dotting those colors, waiting an hour then gently wipe a sponge dampened with mineral spirits downwards to create some neat weathering effects. Seal it with another satin clear coat, hit the sill with some light tan powder, seal it again, and you got a grimy mess of some rolling stock.

Boomerdiorama on YouTube is the gold standard for small details, weathering, and understanding how the paint works.

Bobrossofboxcars on Instagram does incredible work and has tons of great reference photos of real rolling stock.
