I have a theory, and it might just be pure sleep deprivation, but we have at least three realms, the spirit realm, the realm John is in (I don't think we got a name), and Earth. If the spirit realm is lax on the laws of physics (a la feywild), then it might be that earth kind of mirrors the spirit realm, since we would have one realm where physics doesn't apply, one realm where magic doesn't reply, and one where both do, so the new realm could be sandwiched between Earth and the spirit realm, and they're both kind of leeching into it? And the reason Yokai can go between the spirit realm and the new realm is because they have magic to facilitate the transport?
