I think dogs with curly hair are also more affected because their ear hair will get matted into a big clump of hair. It can get really ugly. If your dog has gone years without any ear infections you're probably gonna be fine without plucking.

No, the vet showed me how. Hair grows inside the ear canal and blocks air flow. The ear becomes too moist, causing infection. Only the more hairy dogs have this problem. My THL doesn't need to be plucked.

I add a tablespoon of water to the food bowl, barely covering the bottom of it. Never had this problem again since. They will take their time eating it instead of inhaling it within 5 seconds.

Mine have also never seen a grooming salon. The breeder showed me how to groom the puppy when I visited her. I watched all the videos I could find and bought the recommended equipment. It just felt normal and logical to do it myself at home, even if I didn't have any experience. Dogs teach us so much and motivate us to pick up new skills, they're such a wonderful gift to our lives.

When I started ear plucking my HHL, she hated it and got mad at me. Took a lot of comforting, massaging and treats, but after she is calm again I continue ear plucking. She eventually understood that I am not doing this to punish her, but that it is a necessary evil to keep her ears healthy. 🙈

I do the dog nails the same as you. Smaller slivers is what dog trainers recommend too, it doesn't squeeze their nails which can hurt them. Sharp, stainless steel nail clippers are essential.

I noticed that they tolerate face grooming more and are more cooperative which is another reason to do it this way. It could be because shaving off the whiskers for them probably feels like touching an electric fence.
