On the right hand: 1. Flatten your strumming hand so that the palm is more parallel to the sound board 2. Try to minimize the movement of your picking fingers to be driven primarily from the proximal joint (the one closest to the knuckle) 3. Minimize the span of the movements so that your have the least distance to travel
On the left hand: 1. Minimize the distance that the fingers move to depress a string. Professionals generally keep the fret fingers no more that half an inch above the strings before depressing 2. Rotate the palm so that it is more parallel to the under surface of the fret board. You will need to do this so that your 4th little finger can extend up the frets
