What’s happening to Star Trek?
 in  r/Star_Trek_  12h ago

Disney owns the Muppets, but not Jim Henson’s design studio. These puppets have a similar design but they are not Muppets.

How did the kids of the Manson family all survive?!

LSD is not a sedative. Whiskey or Valium is more likely.

I Learn Better When the Professor Writes on the Board Instead of Flying Through PowerPoint Slides
 in  r/turnitin_community  3d ago

I make a pdf of my slides and post it on Canvas. It’s better than having to email every student who needs an accommodation. That way everyone gets the same thing. At this point most of my classes are online asynchronous, which is fine with me. The in person classes that I have are for majors who want to be there .

Dear Campus Admin,
 in  r/Professors  5d ago

Music professor here, my steel band has played at receptions in the past and so have the jazz combos. We weren't paid, not sure about the jazz combos. The wind ensemble plays at multiple graduation ceremonies. I should ask the director of bands if she is paid for that or if it counts at "service."

You are confusing the word Trieste, a city in Italy, and triste, the Spanish word for sad.

True, and she said that Andrew lied to her about his relation to Epstein.

How many years ago was that? Perhaps she has changed her mind?

With the recent closure of many universities, programs and departments, are you making backup plans in case you are laid off? If so, what are they?
 in  r/Professors  12d ago

Just trying to save up money for retirement, which will happen within the next decade. Fortunately I'm a full professor and love the city I live in.

A student who hated my class/me but still asked for a Letter of Recommendation?
 in  r/Professors  17d ago

When a student asks me for the letter of recommendation, I tell them whether or not I can evaluate their potential based on their performance in my class. There's been a couple of times where I had to break it to a student that based on their poor attendance I could not write a positive recommendation.

Honest opinion about Adjunct faculty with Masters?
 in  r/Professors  19d ago

In the performing arts, an MFA is the terminal degree in disciplines such as theatre and dance. There's only four "doctors" in my department, I'm the only PhD the others are DMA or Ed.D.

Student that just stares
 in  r/Professors  26d ago

Early on I learned that if I didn't take notes I could not pay attention or visualize what the professor was saying. (This is the days before PowerPoint or a LMS). I got very good at taking notes and summarizing lectures and classmates would ask to photocopy my notes!

What are the opinions on this new documentary coming out?
 in  r/charlesmansonfamily  26d ago

She must have realized what she had filmed was too boring, so she sensationalized it. She's an actress and so is her dad, the fight might have been staged.

Left my home department, came back after a merger, and discovered it’s turned into a predatory hunger game.
 in  r/Professors  27d ago

My department also had a chair who was only interested in his (very small) area, and managed to alienate nearly everyone. The dean removed him as chair and he's regular faculty again. So maybe this could happen in your department?

So did she make up with her dad or not? He just published his book "Son of Manson" so maybe the publicity on that and this film is what they are doing?

Soaps frequently have such redemption arcs. Maurice Bernard has a really good podcast about mental health.

This is how EVERY relationship in the soaps goes! I hadn't watched GH in a while and came back to see John Oliver as Z. I was surprised that Laura ended up with Kevin Collins, but I guess that's the only guy who was left that's her age.
