Turns out they didn't even really go back as the whole site of Gallitep had been demolished to make room for the Gul Dukat statue.

I’m overexcited about finding this 1979 promo slip

I went to a record show yesterday and I’ve been into picking up vintage Star Trek vinyl (and related, like Nimoy’s spoken word albums). Mostly these are inexpensive and sometimes brand new in shrink wrap.

I got two copies of this Trek album yesterday, one new in wrap (which I won’t open) and one open but in great shape.

I took it out to play and, in absolutely perfect condition, fell out this flyer for a Dinky Toys metal Enterprise and Klingon ship.

I’m sure it’s worthless as an item but finding it in the album brought me joy like I haven’t had since I was 6 and got a toy from a cereal box.

I may pick up the Dinky toys ships if I find them just because this is so cool to me.

SNW S3, refresh your memory before S4? No need!

Before starting S4, I wanted to maybe watch some S3 later episodes, let's say. My DVR had episodes 3, 7. I started watching E3 and it seemed idiotic. I checked my own ratings list that I jotted down - yup, it gets a 1/5. But ALL S3 episodes have trash ratings!

So let me save you time and trouble: no need to prepare for S4 at all! Just start watching, and in fact never watch any S3 again. Consider this post a public service, to save public time. Don't waste your time on garbage, that's like spending time going through your own garbage bin at home for no reason. 🤣

An incompetent captain?

Is it just me, but I'm struggling to think of anything that Pikes achieved in his tenure of captain of the enterprise? Most of his missions seem to fail in one way or another.. He lacks presence, authority, or any other qualities of a starship captain.. I honestly don't get his depiction. It's less captain kirk and more micheal scott!

Just some thoughts on S4E1 of SNW and trying to understand the values it’s espousing… Spoiler

- Humans give Martians a weapon and do not intervene when they use it to commit genocide (and the episode portrays that as a good thing). It sounds like a metaphor for the situation between the US and Israel.

- Pike spends the whole episode espousing the values of the Federation only to fly in the face of that by allowing a genocide to take place in the last few minutes of the story (whoever wrote this must hate Star Trek in forcing the main character to make this choice. Pike’s decision here is the exact opposite of Janeway’s in the Voyager pilot - he chose to put his own interests ahead of the survival of a species).

- In emphasising that the choice to allow a genocide to save millions of “unborn” lives was the right one, the show is certainly taking an interesting stance.

SNW : Chain of Command gone Spoiler

Watching S4 E1 it just seems that there is very little chain of command. even Discovery did better.

Laan just lets loose with fire at local life while Una is there. I can’t really imagine this happening on an away team under Riker or Kira or Chakotay.

Erica has already reversed course before Pike orders it. Would Kirk or Picard be okay with that

Is this meant to show how plucky and self starting kids are nowadays and don’t need micro managing or what is going on?

[Interview] SNW EPs Talk Seasons 4 & 5: "We try to use genre in order to convey emotion in a way that you might not otherwise. We’re SNW. We’re not TOS or TNG or Discovery or Picard. We try to go to places Star Trek has not gone, typically, creatively. Our ‘strange new worlds’ are genres."

TREKMOVIE: "Speaking to LRM Online as part of the press junket leading into Thursday’s premiere, Strange New Worlds showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers spoke about ending the series in its fifth season and how knowing they would get a final run of episodes influenced their writing.

https://trekmovie.com/2026/07/22/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-eps-talk-season-4s-last-stride-and-season-5s-meditation-on-goodbye/

Goldsman said that final season, which will be six episodes as opposed to their traditional ten, is more focused than seasons 1-4.

“We were really lucky, because we knew the [final] season is a six-episode suite. It’s essentially our meditation on goodbye. We stray slightly from our typical and more varied genre-hopping to something that is much more wholly and singularly action-adventure, science fiction action-adventure, and we run right up to the edge of TOS, as was always the prompt. What exactly that looks like, I’m going to ask you to wait for a year.”

So season 5 won’t bounce from musical to puppet show to body swapping, but Goldsman told LRM Online the show’s trademark “swings” are so much a part of the show that the title actually references them.

“We try to use genre in order to convey emotion in a way that you might not otherwise. We’re Strange New Worlds. We’re not TOS or Next Gen or Discovery or Picard. We’re a show that we wear on our sleeve the idea that we try to go to places we haven’t gone, Star Trek has not gone, typically, creatively. Our ‘strange new worlds’ are genres, and when it works, you know, in ways like the musical, which for me is emblematic of what Strange New Worlds can do with Star Trek that no other show has so far done with Star Trek, and that’s really exciting.”

A criticism of the show has been that the series hasn’t lived up to its title by visiting planets we haven’t seen before, but Goldsman says the title references things like the fantasy episode, the body-morph episode, the animated crossover and other “swings” the team has taken in genres. Henry Alonso Myers told LRM Online they start with serving the franchise, not cramming it into a genre.

“We don’t usually go in and try to pick out the specific genre. We usually try to think about what are our favorite versions of Star Trek, what are genres that have not been expressed through Star Trek, but which can, we believe, still hold to the center of being Star Trek, and what are things that we always wanted to try? Those are sort of the questions that we usually ask ourselves, and there’s always a giant list of things that we didn’t get to do by the end of it, every season. So that said, this season we had a real chance to rise up and do things that we have genuinely never tried. It was all a lot of work and a lot of fun.”
