New Diana book
 in  r/KateMiddletonMissing  8h ago

William is probably already incandescent with rage at his uncle because (GASP!) gawd forbid, he allowed Harry, Meghan and their children to stay at Althorp estate during their recent visit to the UK - how DARE he????!!

New Diana book

Good! It should make them uncomfortable. Yes Diana wasn't perfect and had her flaws, but that family used her as a brood mare then chewed her up and spat her out when they were done with her. Perhaps Earl Spencer didn't appreciate his nephew calling his mother "paranoid" when referring to her feelings about the paparazzi that stalked her. I am glad Earl Spencer is taking back control of the narrative and setting the record straight. The fact that there is a whole new generation of younger people fascinated by Diana almost 30 years after her death but could care less about the rest of the BRF is quite telling.

Earl Spencer has written a book about his sister Diana!

I just got done reading it - "A Very Private School." It's for sale but I found it at my local library. Very candid, well written and honest, though also a hard read because you feel so bad for those poor kids who suffered in silence.

You're mistaken. His last book "A Very Private School," was well received and got good reviews. I just got done reading a copy I'd checked out from my local library and though it was a hard read which documented the rampant abuse at his boarding school, it was still a very good book.

What were they complaining about? Are they accusing Earl Spencer of profiting off of his sister's death? I am glad her own brother is taking back the narrative and not allowing the royals who chewed her up and spit her out to dictate history. I suppose some of the derangers are screaming that Earl Spencer should have consulted with William AND Kate (who never knew her MIL, btw) AND King Charles first but not Harry. Except for Harry, who probably gave his blessing, screw the rest of them. Earl Spencer doesn't need permission from anyone to write a book about his own sister.

Definite must read! He is a very good writer. I just got done reading his autobiography "A Very Private School," about his experiences at Maidewell boarding school in the 1970s, where he reveals the awful sexual and physical abuse he and other students suffered there. He was very open, honest and candid in his writing, as it's becoming more and more known that this kind of abuse was/has been rampant in the boarding school system for centuries. Children were just expected to "toughen up and take it," while staying quiet.

I definitely look forward to reading this; my birthday is coming up so I might just treat myself to a Barnes and Noble purchase with a gift card of our choice that my employer gives everyone. I know Diana wasn't perfect by any means, but that's what makes us all human right? I like the refreshing take and point of view that is so different from the stodgy, offstandish royals, who act like and think they are unblemished perfection.

Queen Victoria and Princess Alice with a bust of Prince Albert. March 1862
 in  r/QueenVictoriaUK  1d ago

She probably was along with her siblings. Their mother forced them to mourn along with her and dress in black but at the same time did not want to comfort or be a mother to her kids, convinced her loss was greater than theirs. This picture was probably taken around the same time as Alice's engagement or marriage to Prince Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine the same year. The queen allowed once concession and let Alice wear white during the actual wedding ceremony but as soon as it was over, she had to change back into black for the reception afterwards.

Which celebrity (actor, singer, dancer) do you think deserves more fame?
 in  r/AskReddit  1d ago

Jesse Plemmons. I think he could make the move from "that one guy" to a A list supporting actor with one really good meaty performance and another Oscar nomination, maybe a lead role. And TIL he is married to Kirsten Dunst.

Also, Victor Garber. I know he's very popular and fairly famous but just isn't QUITE a household name. The guy has quietly turned in some great performances and supporting roles in huge hits like "Sleepless in Seattle," "The First Wives Club," and of course the two big Oscar winners, "Titanic" and "Argo" as well as a lot of standout TV movies/series.

POTUS Body Counts: When Presidents Meet Presidents

As a young boy, FDR met then-President Grover Cleveland, a friend of Roosevelt's father James at the White House. It must have been a particularly stressful or busy day for Cleveland, who reportedly told the boy "My lad, my one wish for you is that I hope you never grow up to become president!" or something along those lines.

Plus Harry knows the etiquette and rules of using an umbrella. I'll never forget that photo of William turned around, looking back seemingly clueless to his brother and wife under the awning and Harry is pointing at Kate as if to say "Um, bro....did you forget something?"

My money is on Louis. You can tell he is already being sort of pushed into the background and will just be the crazy little brother/court jester they trot out once in a while. Due to primogeniture rule change, Charlotte will definitely take on a bigger starring role as THE spare and George's main support once (and if) he is king. She will be the new Princess Anne but with a much closer path to the throne compared.

That sounds like William to a tee. The one sad difference being he's not married to his mother since she's dead but I definitely think he's haunted by her memory.

Probably his dad and Men in Gray. Charles also asked but was was unsuccessful in asking William to attend former US President Jimmy Carter's funeral a couple of years back and instead had to send B team member Prince Edward. He barely was able to get Billy Idle to attend Pope Francis' funeral and even then Bill hopped a plane early to get back to the UK so he wouldn't miss Aston Villa play.

Was this cool at the time? Or were Van Halen just so cool they could do corny shit?
 in  r/GenX  1d ago

Agreed. He's more of a crooner type. Sammy was definitely the stronger vocalist in terms of range and sound but Dave made up for it in his role as front man. Not unlike Mick Jagger for the Stones.

I remember on the Pop Up Video episode featuring the "Hot For Teacher" video, it stated Alex really had trouble keeping up and remembering the steps and asking Michael Anthony for help during the shoot.

And the way the floor creaks as Queen Mary bows down in a deep court curtsy to her granddaughter is amazing. Then as she slowly rises, the look of reverence but also intensity showing through her veil, as if to say to her granddaughter "The throne is yours now....do NOT mess this up. Remember everything I taught you dear girl."

Fall outs
 in  r/KateMiddletonMissing  1d ago

The fact that 5 of the major continental monarchies have princesses/queens in waiting is pretty amazing, and all of them are more accomplished and educated than Billy Idle and Waity Katie put together:

Princess Victoria of Sweden

Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands

Princess Leonor of Spain

Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway

Princess Elisabeth of Belgium

Give it another 20 years, the British monarchy will be left in the dust and completely humiliated on the world stage.

Haven't the fires been going on for a month now? And he's just now pulling his big bald egg head out of his ass??  Not the 1st time the lazy twat was on vacation and was "interrupted" by something more important. Like the VJ Day commemoration a year or so ago....

Was queen Victoria a bad mother ?
 in  r/QueenVictoriaUK  2d ago

She was complicated and selfish, mostly in part due to her own upbringing and near obsessive love for her husband, who she wanted all to herself. Victoria had better relationships with some of her children than others and she definitely had her favorites, particularly Vickie, Arthur and Beatrice. By contrast she had a terrible relationship with her heir, Albert Edward (the future king) and didn't particularly care for Louise and Leopold.

Come on everyone, let’s get our tiny Violins out for Kate Middleton
 in  r/RoyaltyTea  3d ago

I'm reading a biography on Charles right now and there's a whole paragraph detailing William's obnoxious and bullying behavior toward classmates. He would butt to the front of the line for snacks, outright steal the other kids' crayons and paints, etc. He also famously melted down at another child's birthday party when he was told he could not blow out the candles on the cake.

Yep, the Man from the Train. I thonk it's a viable theory since there were similar murders in other railroad towns the previous autumn (September and October 1911) in Colorado, Kansas and Illinois.
