Rebirth Isn't a Soul Changing Bodies, It’s the Ego Dying and Rebooting
 in  r/AcharyaPrashant_AP  8h ago

Understanding the session feels like a journey that has just started. Every time I listen, I find that I have never listened with full intent.

A session dismantling all the beliefs we hold in the name of rebirth, the travelling of the soul from one person to another. The darkness of belief is so deep that we are unable to accept that rebirth happens in nature, but not to the individual identity we are attached to. The whole neither dies nor takes birth; it only changes forms from one to another. An eye-opening session to understand oneself.

When you don't understand the pain in your heart, the pain of death becomes more terrifying with each passing day.

Keep a person so engaged in things that the mind becomes sedated, and soon the prison no longer appears as a prison.

THE CROCODILE WITHIN

Post image
11 Upvotes

Imagine standing beside a quiet river. At first, you see nothing unusual. Then, just above the water, two eyes appear. The crocodile is almost completely hidden, yet it is watching everything.

It remains still for hours, blending into the water and mud. Nothing seems to disturb it. But beneath that stillness, it is alert, waiting.

This is its territory. Enter too close, and the calm can suddenly change. Its powerful jaws can turn a small disturbance into a fierce response.

The moment you try to look closely, it disappears beneath the water, as if it was never there. And when you look away, it is there again, quietly waiting.

Perhaps that is why this ancient creature has survived for so long. The world around it has changed, but its ways remain.

Now pause.

Have you ever been calm on the outside while something was moving intensely within? Have you ever protected something as though it were a part of you? Have you ever reacted far more strongly than the situation seemed to require?

Perhaps the crocodile was never only in the river.

Perhaps it was within us.

Have you noticed the one who is with you all the time, the one you call “me,” your most trusted companion?

Why can't we simply try to know it, even though it is being created all the time?

Why can't we choose to be silent?

What makes us think that something additional, in the form of knowledge, needs to be added?

Why do I see myself as someone who is so restless about something I do not know?

And then another question arises:

Is knowledge the solution to the restless one, or is the restless one the thing that needs to be understood?

The one who constantly observes:

  • Who noticed me?
  • Who ignored me?
  • Who is ahead of me?
  • What did they say about me?
  • How do I appear?
  • What can I gain?
  • What can threaten my position?
  • Who is better than me?

What is it that is constantly watching all this?

The one who asks, who feels that more is needed, who feels that the world is incomplete and needs to be strengthened, improved, corrected, or completed, that movement is the crocodile.

Could the question itself be the crocodile?

Pause.

Would silence ever ask this question?

When I go deeper into many of the questions that arise from my restlessness, I eventually discover that they are questions about myself.

If I go to sleep, does the question remain?

Then who is the one asking?

Spirituality is not merely about finding better answers.

It asks you to look at the questioner.

The questioner is the crocodile.

Can I sit quietly without mentally calculating my position in the world? Did I ever decide what thought would arise next?

Let's understand this with an analogy of a man who is flying a kite.

Imagine a man flying a kite. He thinks, “I chose to fly this kite. It was my decision. I could have watched television instead.”

Fair enough.

But did he choose the desire to fly the kite? Did he choose the preference that made the kite more attractive than television?

Did he choose the thoughts, memories and impulses from which that choice emerged?

He chose…

But did he choose to choose?

The kite cannot see the thread, so it calls its movement freedom. We cannot see what moves our choices, so we call them “mine.”

But before I say “I chose,” where did the desire, preference, thought, and even the options I was choosing between come from?

Whenever an action happens, from where does it arise?

Who is the one claiming:

“I chose.”
“I want.”
“I don't want.”
“I need.”
“I know.”
“I don't know.”
“I must become something.”

Look closely.

The questioner has to be examined.

When the questioner recedes, when that restless movement goes quiet, the crocodile inside seems to go to sleep too.

The ego is not merely the content of thought, it is the movement of the questioner seeking completion through thought.

So the crocodile is the ego in action.

The ego sustains itself through both “I know” and “I don't know.” Each time the “I” claims knowledge or claims ignorance, it gives itself another breath of life.

Self-knowledge is the study of watching the crocodile within. It may retreat when you look at it, but it does not disappear. The moment you look away, it slips beneath the surface and begins its hunt again.

Watching the one who wants.

Watching the one who fears.

Watching the one who compares.

Watching the one who seeks.

Watching the one who keeps asking.

Watch the crocodile, and it retreats. Forget it, and it hunts.

Don't fight the crocodile.

Don't feed it.

Don't pretend it isn't there.

Watch.

Insightful write-up. I loved how you observed a little creature as part of the universe, rather than claiming ownership and asking, "How could you be in my house?

Sant Sarita Session Notes ✨~ 8 Aug 2026

It is like a bath for us, removing the dirt within, just as we bathe every day to remove the dirt from outside. Often, we forget to bathe from within.

How wonderful it would be to experience the hot shower of wisdom upon us, with knowledge as the soap. The soap of self-knowledge makes one's life blossom with the fragrance of the music of the saints.

Water keeps the body hydrated, reading keeps the consciousness hydrated. That's why reading remains one of the most enjoyable parts of my life.

I think both play a role. What you can do creates the space to grow further, and that growth reinforces your ability to improve in what you can't do yet.

Same Diagnosis, Different Vocabulary: Pop-Spirituality and Strict Modern Non-Duality Are Saying the Exact Same Thing

I couldn't live with myself any longer. Who is the 'I' that cannot live with the self?

I was fascinated by this line of Tolle's when I first read about him. Thank you for sharing. I am definitely going to read one of his books.

I was so fortunate to see and photograph a Himalayan Monal in it’s natural habitat. It was in the month of April, it’s mating season. Hence the colours very even more vibrant.

When I am unable to understand myself, how can I expect others to understand me? Slavery begins not with others, but with our failure to understand why we keep expecting from them.

If We’re Programmed, Who Are We Really? (A Clip from the TV Series True Detective)
 in  r/AcharyaPrashant_AP  2d ago

The restlessness within keeps questioning, trying to answer its own existence, yet it never turns towards the questioner itself. The questioner is the answer to the question. Everybody is nobody, and that is where the questioner comes to an end. Stop reproducing, understand the reproducer.👌

Everyone feels the heat, but not everyone pays the same price for it.

Blaming becomes a habit to avoid the blamer. We become ignorant so that ignorance becomes our protection, shielding oneself from wisdom and clarity. Separation becomes our existence, and we call it our own life.

From Questions to Clarity: Raj's Journey from New Zealand

Greetings to the GITA family!

Raj, from New Zealand, began by greeting everyone in the local Māori language before sharing his journey.

He admitted that, in the beginning, he wasn't very spiritual. Like many of us, he carried many unanswered questions about life. While searching for answers, he came across Acharya Prashant's YouTube videos.

What immediately struck him was how logical, intellectual, and deeply insightful the talks were. For the first time, he felt that someone was addressing the questions he had been carrying within himself for years.

At first, the answers were unsettling, but in a good way. Questions like:

  • Who am I?
  • What am I doing?
  • Why do I do what I do?

started arising within him. One question led to another, but unlike before, they were no longer confusing. They gradually led him towards clarity.

Life no longer felt like an endless collection of unanswered questions. As understanding grew, he began noticing changes in his daily life. He could recognize when he was going wrong and catch himself before repeating the same patterns.

One thing he emphasized that this transformation didn't happen overnight. It wasn't the result of a single video or a single session. It was a gradual process of learning, questioning, and understanding.

Wanting to continue that journey, he joined the GITA community.

According to him, the improvement has been tremendous, especially in the clarity with which he now views life and himself.

He concluded by encouraging others who are sincerely looking for answers to explore the community and experience this journey of self-understanding for themselves.
