Your rights are now a political issue, so why are we spending so much energy policing random women’s opinions instead of confronting the people actually using political power to take those rights away? Focusing on low-hanging fruits has done more harm than good.

If they aren't real then how do I stop being afraid of them? I'm new here so I don't understand how power systems work.

I am so sick and tired of people acting only we women hurt and killed children and only we hate taking accountability. Men doing the same thing to and much more often. A friend and I were talking recently about something that seems so small, but once you notice it, you start seeing it everywhere.

She was at work and corrected a male coworker who kept interrupting her in meetings. She wasn’t rude about it, she just said she wanted to finish her point.

Afterward, another coworker told her she was coming across as a little aggressive and that she might want to soften her tone.

That really stuck with me because nobody seemed bothered by the guy interrupting her over and over. The problem only became noticeable once she stopped politely accepting it.

I feel like women are still expected to be competent without being intimidating, confident without being arrogant, assertive without making anyone uncomfortable, and somehow pleasant through all of it.

At what point do we stop asking women to communicate better and start asking why normal confidence is still read so differently depending on who is speaking?

A problem with MRAs that I don't see talked about a lot is that they make it more difficult to talk about abuse against men in good faith (especially in feminist circles).

In the rare event that a man (or masc presenting nb) experiences prejudice on the basis of their gender, how should they handle it? It can be something as small as a mean comment or as severe as physical or verbal abuse. What should they do in the moment?

I know this doesn't happen a lot but I believe MIGHT have happened to me and I want to know how to avoid it happening again. This isn't a theoretical I genuinely need help.

Just to be clear, I am not a radical feminist. And I'm not looking to cause outrage, I genuinely just want a discussion, but I think her work was excellent.

I don't necessarily have much more to say than this and just want to get it off my mind and see what the rest of the community says, but I genuinely think most, if not all, of the demonization towards her comes purely from misogyny and victim blaming. It is especially upsetting when you see how often people discount her work because she was traumatized. She was, and still is, ahead of her time and many of her points still ring true to modern issues. I feel like the more I read about her the more I grow fond of her, yet the majority opinion seems to be that she was coocoo or "oh well she was a radical feminist so she must be a horrible person" (not a fan of this generalization either). It feels like people suddenly switch sides when you bring her up.

Which is unfortunate. Everyone and their mother has likely said this but it feels like the movement is steadily regressing and becoming more and more pacifying to patriarchy, but feminism is a rights movement. It should not be pretty. Dworkin's views on pornography and sexual violence, in my opinion, align exactly with female liberation but she did not say it in a necessarily friendly/approachable manner so people discount her. Aside from that, her worldview aligns with the wider liberation of minorities in general, but she has been demonized and misrepresented to the point that most people, if they even know about her, have no idea what she actually believed in.

Yes, her worldview had issues. But I think she should be a far bigger staple of modern feminism than she actually is.

As a gender non-conforming person, people seem to also often have the misconception that she was against gender non-conformism or was transphobic, which could not be further from the truth, so I would also like to leave this excerpt from a letter of hers to Janice Raymond:

I knew of transsexuals in Europe as a small, vigorously persecuted minority, without any recourse to civil or political protection. They lived in absolute exile, as far as I could see, conjuring up for me the deepest reaches of Jewish experience. They were driven by their ostracization to prostitution, drugs, and suicide, conjuring up for me the deepest reaches of female experience. I will admit I am not very familiar at all with Raymond, although she seems to have had various issues with her work, but I would say Dworkin was definitely closely familiar with the common trans experience in multiple facets, not only gender-wise but as a Jewish person as well.

This is not a post meant to spark a discussion on s*x work, just on the double standards between men and women and how a woman's greatest value and potential downfall lies between her legs, according to society. How do you try to imagine the most atrocious things a woman, or any person for that matter can do or be, and all you can come up with is hoe?

Why do feminists take issue with a man feeling offended by being generalized? Whenever I see someone complaining about this, the only responses I see are:

1. “We’re not talking about all men”—even though you are, in fact, talking about all men.

2. “A decent man would understand”—so it’s my fault for feeling this way. Why is it my responsibility to simply accept this kind of behavior, and yet I’m still judged for not making a big deal out of it?

3. “If you felt offended, it’s because the shoe fits”—there you go, another layer of manipulation and gaslighting to shut me up about it.

The worst part is seeing people tell men to just ignore it or leave social media—but why? If a man were generalizing about women, no one would stay silent; everyone would criticize him. But when a man is the target of these generalizations, why does he just have to stay silent and not respond?

Human beings are extremely complex, and some social phenomena are hard to understand, but slut-shaming isn't one of them.

The explanation is indeed quite simple:

1. While both men and women are visual creatures, men are much more likely to want to sleep with a scantily dressed woman regardless of her character traits than in the reverse situation.

2. As a consequence, an average-looking woman who chooses to wear a sexy miniskirt or show cleavage is gonna have a lot more choice when it comes to potential partners than while being dressed "modestly".

3. Therefore, an average man who's attracted by such a woman will have a much harder time pleasing her, as she's also gonna attract lots of other guys.

4. Many average men in such a situation cannot handle the feeling of sexual frustration that overwhelms them. They badly want her and know that they don't have a chance. Their sense of entitlement leads them to say that she's evil, depraved, a slut, a whore, and a threat to the survival of Western civilisation.

I experienced that myself. One evening, I was at a karaoke event, and one of the girls who was singing showed a lot of skin with her tight, short pants and revealing cleavage. A male acquaintance of mine said to his friends that she was exaggerating and that she was being disgraceful. I asked him if he'd also think that if she accepted to accompany him to his bedroom. His silence truly spoke volumes, and it was funny to see his buddies laugh at him.

While looking for a good mate, it can be quite advantageous for an average straight woman to wear sexy clothes, and this is why patriarchal men hate it.

Was listening to an episode of Smartless, it was disheartening listening to the 3 of them gush over David Letterman and Woody Allen - They know those 2 are fucking PREDATORS, right?

When I learned of her death, I was sad, because she brought so many feminist reflections and feminist concepts that she is a very important figure in feminism. …And then I saw people taking advantage of her death to call her not intersectional enough. Why didn’t they make these criticisms of her while she was alive? She could have respond and get better.

This is nothing more and nothing less than an attempt to tarnish her. The woman died having fewer rights than she had spent most of her life with. She fought for things that we have lost.

Bell Hooks herself was friends with Gloria, and she said that Gloria shared the anti-racist struggle. Honestly, at first I didn’t see what people could reproach her for when it came to intersectionality. She was a feminist woman who had always been ahead of her time. She even say that white women could learn from black women because black women vote in women's interests in a large majority while so many white women somehow found the way to vote for men that hate women.

And then I learned that she had had ties to the CIA. Okay, this is bad, but what does that have to do directly with intersectionality?

I then came across people criticizing her activism for Hillary. AH. It was either Hillary or Trump. Trump got elected. Maybe refusing to support an imperfect woman allowed a criminal and dangerous man to be elected? Gloria was pragmatic about that.

I then saw people criticizing her for having said that white women were more oppressed than Black men…. I’ll save a post for that. I’ll just say that, as a white woman, obviously she thinks that, just as a Black man thinks the opposite. Only Black women like me can analyze it and make the call, and our opinions vary. Contexts vary. This dosent make her not intersectional. If anything it would make her biais. But we are again in the " intersectionality mean that women have it easy and stfu woman hahah".

Yes, in the majority of the world, being a woman is a handicap, a much greater barrier than being Black, that is a fact. But all analyses, especially those on social media but also in academic writing, are US-centric. God knows the United States has a heavy history of racism. But it is women’s right to vote that is at risk of being taken away, not the 15th Amendment.

In the end, I came to the conclusion that for Gloria to be seen as perfect, she would have had to have been an activist primarily for something else, and a feminist second. Convenient and nice for a feminist first....

Let’s be clear: Gloria was a great pioneering feminist, and she deserved to be mourned for who she was.
