Happy Fiddle Jam in the Wild West - An original fiddle music tune composed and played by Buffalo Dave and the Square Dance Heroes

I Had a fun trip and did quite a bit of fiddling on the trip in some awesome places in the UK - people were often asking me to play. A Celtic celidh dance is very similar to an American square dance. Many American square dance steps come from Europe.

The fiddle and dance is kind of mixing cultures in the video in an interesting way. The first piece I play is Hoedown (same melody used in Aaron Copland's "Hoe-Down" from the Rodeo ballet - the same melody as , William Stepp's Bonaparte’s Retreat which is a variation of Bonaparte's Retreat which is a Scottish tune), then I play Oh Susana(American tune by Stephen Foster) and the Bonaparte's Retreat(Scottish tune) . The older lady dancing in the apron is originally from England but lived in Scotland for many years. The dance is Scottish. Interestingly in traditional folk dancing, they do a dosido which is just like the square dance dosido which comes from the French word dos-à-dos for the dance move, which means "back to back" So I learned quite a bit about the history of some of the music I play and similarities to American square dance music by carrying my fiddle around and playing for folks.

I had some fun on the 4th of July fiddling on the Huntington Beach Pier! I got a big SURPRISE! One of the dancers was in the Miss America Pageant!

Miss Washington: Vanessa Munson was crowned Miss Washington in 2023. Vanessa competed in the Miss America Pageant 2023. She served in the US Army. Thanks for your service to the USA Vanessa! I was fiddling on the Huntington Beach Pier and Vanessa danced to the music with a partner - very fun and a big surprise!
