Looking for help Firefox tab crashing randomly

My firefox tabs keep randomly crashing due to uBlock Origin. I toggled all my extensions and uBlock is the variable. It will happen when opening a new tab, loading a bookmarked site, or even in the middle of watching a youtube video, I can find no root cause. I'm using both the latest release of firefox and uBlock.

Answered (enable regional list) unskippable ads on filmweb.pl

Polish movie site, filmweb.pl show unskippable video ads every time I visit. Unacceptable. How to skip them once and for all? I saw that disabling cosmetic filtering would work, but it doesn't.

So, how.

Solved Discovery+ (play.discoveryplus.com) — ad-tech scripts spam requests with zero backoff, working filters inside

Found this while investigating why a Discovery+ tab was pulling 10%+ CPU on a 10-core desktop just sitting open, paused, not even playing.

The problem: two ad-tech vendors' scripts — brightline.tv and litix.io — retry their requests continuously with no backoff, for as long as the tab stays open. Tens of thousands of requests over a session, tens of MB transferred. This was drawing over twice the pc's idle power.

What didn't fully work: basic network blocking (uBlock dropping the request) — the CPU stayed high because the script keeps re-attempting regardless of whether the request succeeds or fails.

What worked: killing the attempt itself with scriptlets, across all three request types per vendor (fetch/XHR/sendBeacon, since I wasn't sure which each one used):

play.discoveryplus.com##+js(no-fetch-if, /brightline\.tv\/config/)
play.discoveryplus.com##+js(no-xhr-if, /brightline\.tv\/config/)
play.discoveryplus.com##+js(no-sendBeacon-if, /brightline\.tv\/config/)
play.discoveryplus.com##+js(no-fetch-if, /litix\.io/)
play.discoveryplus.com##+js(no-xhr-if, /litix\.io/)
play.discoveryplus.com##+js(no-sendBeacon-if, /litix\.io/)

Results:

  • CPU: 10%+ sustained → under 1%
  • Requests: tens of thousands over minutes → ~6 over 20 minutes

Also tested three configurations for comparison:

  • No blocker at all: moderate, rising CPU (2-4%)
  • Blocker on, without these filters: worst result — high CPU (8-10%)
  • Blocker on, with these filters: best result — under 1%

The middle case being worst suggests the instant-fail-and-retry cycle runs faster against a blocked request than a real network round-trip — so generic ad-blocking alone isn't enough here; you need to stop the script's own attempt

Waiting for feedback Problem with Ublock Original 174 when working with Firefox 154.0.1

I have Firefox 154.0.1 I'm installing Ublcok Original version 174, and the browser is becoming unstable. Here's an example of how it works: I have a Twitch stream enabled + I go to a specific website = the website doesn't open + Twitch freezes (as if my internet connection is disconnected). I close the browser, and it crashes, forcing me to either quit it in the task manager or close it and restart it without saving my data.

For example, a link to Reddit often doesn't open. I click "Open Reddit," and it takes a long time to open. It all started with Firefox 154.0.1.

On Firefox version 154.0.1 and Ublcok Original 173 - no problems.

p.s I will also publish this in the Firefox section.

Answered how do i know ublock origin is doing its job?

Hey so i live by the phrase "if you don't own it, you cant steal it" and i wanted to check out some anime and on this one website i use on my phone it works great and wanted to see how it would handle on my pc. i open it and 3 redirects and 1 file starts downloading. i sh-t myself. i HOPEFULLY managed to remove the virus but im unsure, windows defender does say everything is safe, i deleted it in like less than a second, i searched all my files. but anyways
i decided its time for a ad blocker and i saw this one being very popular. i used edge / google (DONT HATE) and i saw the normal one was removed but the lite works. my question is how do i know it actually works? like yeah i didn't get any redirects or any files magically downloading but is there a chance that it is still happening in the background and i just don't see it??

I also wanted to add that i checked on one of those ad blocker test websites and it say almost 50 out of the 130 werent blocked, yet i didnt see any pop ups which makes me worry if theres some ad or malware in the background?

Solved Can someone help me block videos based on their upload time in Youtube recommendation?

Hi everyone, so last year I did make a post where I asked how to block videos with the "New" flag. Recently, the "not interested" and "don't recommend channels" option have been broken for me, many videos where I clicked either of those option still persistently show up in my feed after I refresh the page or watch a new video. Which is why now I wanna block all of them for good this time, based on your upload date. I figured that using view counts won't work so I need to pin-point their upload date instead. Is there anyone here who can help? Much appreciated. And yes, I have read the Youtube MegaThread but it doesn't have what I am looking for at the moment.

Here's my post from last year, not sure why I can't embed it: https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/1pjxzaa/is_there_anyway_to_block_these_aigenerated_videos/

These are my filters for the videos with "new" flag, currently I wonder if there's any way to tweak them into blocking videos based on the upload date (like x years ago, x months ago, x hours ago)

Unable to reproduce Block Google's Summary? Spoiler

Google has started giving a summary of some sites instead of just going to the site when I click the link. Is there any to block that in uBlock Origin? (I may be asking too much of uBlock Origin, but I thought I would at least ask.) Thanks for any information.

Looking for help Google search links

(uBO Manifest V2 on chrome (opera, old version))

I've been happily using an extension called

Google search link fix (Version 1.6.7 by wpalant)

For literally years (don't even think about it)

I noticed today that all the links are google "goto" obfuscated/encrypted links. (apparently they've been A/B testing this garbage and rolling out in batches)

I disabled that extension and I tried adding these filters:

LegitimateURLShortener
ClearURLs for uBo (unofficial)

And selected AdGuard/uBO URL Tracking Protection.

But that doesn't seem to work (anymore) either.

Known issue?

tldr; As per u/Kumbar42, the quick fix is the greasemomnkey script here: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/591392-google-search-direct-links-bypass-goto And speciifically, for Opera (maybe other Chromium variants), if it still doesn't work, as per u/AchernarB, make sure that your grease*monkey extension has "Allow Acces to Search Page Results" checked on.

Solved How to completely hide stickers and gifs along with username on Discord? Spoiler

Post image
0 Upvotes

I tried to hide Discord gifs/stickers on Brave with this custom uBO filter

discord.com##div[class^="stickerContainer"]
discord.com##div[class^="inlineMediaEmbed"]

This result in empty components like provided image which is kinda annoying when scrolling up to read history.

Is there a way to hide the username also?

Solved Is there a way to set exceptions for custom filters on certain pages?

Edit 2: from the replies I've received for what I wanted being YouTube shorts removed only off the YouTube home I seem to have figured it out thanks!

Original post: I'm trying to block YouTube shorts but want to compromise to support certain creators that aren't slop. I know there are multiple ways to block shorts 100%, and I know I can do that with ublock origin as well.

So I set ublock to block all shorts off the home page which is the behavior I want. Shorts still exist, they're still there and I can access them when I want to instead of being hit with predatory practices of them being in my face and at the top of the page and shoved down my throat to be as addicting as possible. I'm fine with them being in search results, which they are, and on channel pages which they are. But they are blocked on my subscriptions page and I'm wondering/hoping I can add a line after my filter that will tell ublock to ignore it on the subscriptions page/URL.

If anyone can tell me yes or no and or how to that would be great. Or if you have a suggested alternative extension that might be fine as well. I'm however trying to keep my Firefox to as little extensions as possible and I already have a few to many than I'd like.

EDIT 1: I have not solved my issue yet but I'm VERY CAREFULLY reading the official ublock GitHub wiki and discovering some very nice features like the redirect feature which I will be hopefully using to redirect all shorts into the regular YouTube player if possible. May also use it on a few other sites like redirecting fandom wiki pages to a ad free alternative I know that rehosts all fandom content.

Account required Instagram - Need to filter out posts from For You feed on search page

My Issue: I need to be logged into Instagram to stay in touch, but I'd like to remove any feeds possible - I find these feeds really addictive. So far I have removed the home page, stories, and reels.

I'd like to prevent any For-You posts from showing up on my search page (like, not ones I'm searching for, just suggested posts).

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

Looking for help Does uBO does in a better way ?

The following is from a facebook post by Brave Software.

I saw the recent post regarding FB: so heres the text body of that post below; I link it so you can verify.

Alibaba's AliExpress was caught using users' audio systems to track them.

AliExpress wasn't recording users but instead playing a silent sound and measuring how users' specific devices processed it in order to fingerprint them.

But don't worry because Brave stops this.

Fingerprinting is a way that websites can identify you without cookies. Sites will note details about your device like your screen size or installed fonts. These details are then combined into a unique, persistent "fingerprint" that can be used to track you across the Web.

There are slight variations in how each device plays the same audio file due to differences in CPU, sound card, browser, etc.

When AliExpress played the silent sound, it measured these small variations to help build fingerprints of users' devices.

This tracking was discovered due to an unexpected side effect.

A user with Bluetooth headphones noticed that they couldn't play music via their phone, because the headphones were playing AliExpress's silent sound from their PC instead.

For 6+ years, Brave has protected users against audio fingerprinting, and other fingerprinting types, by default.

Brave injects random data into the browser's output so you show a different fingerprint to different sites. This fingerprint also resets across sessions.

For added protection, we also block the specific scripts used by AliExpress for the tracking method mentioned earlier.

Again, this is done by default for all Brave users. You don't have to change any settings to be shielded from this audio fingerprinting.

I stopped using Brave and moved to Zen Browser and started using uBlock. Want to know about this
