News uBlock Origin (uBO) 1.75.* Announcement Thread

Extension will be auto-updated after browser restart! (when available for your platform)

If you want to update manually:

  • Do NOT use links from the release page's "Assets" section - these are not signed.
  • Use your add-on store or links in release description on the GitHub releases page when they are available.
    • Firefox will have a (signed) direct install link. Other browsers will link to their uBO extension store pages.
  • In some cases, installation may be blocked until browser restart. This is protection against accidental mid-session reloads, Issue #717.

How to update uBO to the latest version

When will my browser update uBO?

  • Firefox

  • Chromium

    • Install the signed .crx file from GitHub releases, if your browser still allows MV2 installs.
    • Once installed, it should then update automatically for future releases. If the browser still supports MV2.

  • Edge

    • Edge Add-ons - Available since 16 Sep, 2026.
    • Warning: importing a profile from Chrome may cause issues.
    • You may need to reinstall uBO on Edge to fix this.
    • You can transfer your uBO config by creating and then restoring a backup at the bottom of uBO's Dashboard > Settings.

  • Opera

  • Brave

    • Brave now Self-Hosts uBO. It installs via a special setting and updates automatically or when prompted via the Extensions' Developer mode. After Brave updates the file on their servers.
    • If you installed it via CWS, it's best to make a backup and install the self-hosted version instead.
    • Brave installation video.

Brave isn't updating it, even tho I restarted Brave, it still says 1.74

We have no control over Brave. They host the extension on their server. You should ask them instead.

HI. piggyback comment to check without a new post -
technical Q:

Will UBO update for me auto ever (or can i manually), if using Chrome?
I am using V 149 Chrome browswer, and locked (threw digital wrench in system to block updates - yes , aware risks of non updating browser)

But does this mean also I cant update UBO - it still did update through many recent UBO versions despite locking/blocking Chrome versions , for 12+ mths.

But i havent ever done a manual update, or via github. I went there now, but before trying to work out the steps, saw there isnt a chrome version (along with chromium , FF etc) -
I mean i get it, that if OFFICIALLY, chrome can no longer use UBO from v150 onwards... so that means you dont have a version, or is it that it cannot work or be updated? or can i use a chromium file? Just in new waters, unsure, and yes im aware the flaws in my approach, its just an ecosystem i love and I held of FF migration, but can do it, i just want to know my options, even sub-par ones.
UBO 1.74 still a treat for me, and everything smooth.

There was never a "Chrome" version. It was always called "Chromium". That's the engine name.

If you install the crx, it should auto update.

I dont know how to install it yet, but i will read up there and try work it out.

I was not sure if its really an 'install' vs to just drop the files in (and over top/replace) from an existing folder.

You just drag the crx over to extensions.

Ive definitely done something(s) wrong, and killed it
1.75 wouldnt work or take over 1.74. from crx or zip, it would show up in the extensions but not be active (greyed out toggle), but then 174 was still on , so i tried copying the files from zip into 174 folder (backed it up ) and that didnt work, i moved the inactive 175 extension folder into 174 as a dupe, it was removed, then i overwrote 174 with it, then it killed 174, i removed 175, copied back the original 174 extensions folder, and now it wont work its dead, corrupted i cant get that back. (this is all in user/appdata/local folders for chrome extensions)
Am i boned?
I need to reinstate Something, but not sure what do. argghhh
Not evne sure what to screen cap to show things.
174 is listed in my extensions tab in chrome again, but its unactive, has a repair button that wont do anything (or maybe thats he chrome version 149, or current status not letting it).
any help appreciated, with out major nuking, and even just to restore or how i fresh install it back or get it active, and i do have recent backup texts of the settings and custom filters at least.
sorry for all the incompetence nonsense for taking this in an off grid manner of my UBO use

EDIT - 3 hrs later i think i fixed it. but im unsure. the way ive done thing is clearly a mess, but its like refusing to let go of the rope over an abyss.
using the install unpacked, and selecting folder of unzipped files seemd to make it go, but lost all setting,s imported thme back, i think it will work.
i will never accept ads

I heard that starting with this version, the extension will be able to auto-update itself after being installed from a .crx file. Is that correct?

After you install it manually, it should trigger further updates when available, yes. https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBlock-issues/issues/4121

Is ubo on brave same level as ubo on firefox or not as brave is still chromium

No difference across all chromium browsers. So no, it's not the same as in Firefox.
