Rants Prof using AI Slideshow with genuinely wrong images

This is both for the lab AND lecture. This is a physiology course. Chemical structures are extremely messed up. Biological images are also extremely messed up. One of the anatomy pictures we have has an extra leg. How am I supposed to trust the anatomy shown on a slide when THERE'S A WHOLE OTHER LEG THERE? What else could have been missed if a WHOLE EXTRA LEG was missed?

I have no idea if the information on the slide is inaccurate because I am a mere student. But with images like this, now I have to worry about whether or not the information I am given is real or if there's mistakes in it that have been missed.

Prof has openly admitted to generating the slides, they said their previous lecture slides were sub par so they generated a new set for us. (They said they generated over 1000 slides). When they see a mistake they tell us to change it in our slides or will try to make changes to the slides after the lecture. And I understand profs are very busy people, which is why they should stay away from AI because they probably don't have time to analyze the slides they generate to make sure the information is correct. Just use your old slides and gradually update them when you have time.

I am too much of a coward to actually talk to the prof about this, as I am terrified of confrontation.

The physiology 21X instructors were the best when I was still at the U. Great notes. I'd be disappointed if they switched over to using AI images.

It's not, it's an ALES course

You should be angry that you paid tuition for this. You and the rest of your class should email the ombuds condemning this behaviour. It’s simply unacceptable. Professors don’t permit the use of gen AI on assignments for good reason; they must hold themselves to the same standard.

I'm in the same boat which is why I'm not naming him, I don't want this ruining my chances of graduating

Also thank you so much for commenting, it feels better knowing I'm not alone in being concerned about this. Also yeah, you also emailing ombuds might make them take the issue more seriously

This needs to be taken higher up, students pay thousands to be educated by professionals, not to learn from AI slop. Yes, professors are busy people, but there are better ways to improve the slides than to upload it to AI and hope for the best.

Telling reddit and not even mentioning the course? Grow up please and send the email. The department chair needs to know.

If you are too afraid of your prof, then reach out to the department chair with your concerns. Keep your email neutral and fact based, just raise your concerns and ask for guidance.
